AUX port mounting fix
A few weeks ago I hit the problem that many people seem to have had (or will have); the AUX port in my center console pushed through into the abyss below. I finally got to fixing it this week (by pulling the rear vent and pushing it back through from the side) and decided to create a more permanent, proper remedy than putting it back as it was or placing a zip tie under the flange. Since I couldn't find an off-the-shelf solution (at the time - more on that later), I grabbed my calipers, took some measurements, modeled a part that sits under the flange to prevent it from pushing through, and printed it. The first version seems to be working just fine (see attachment), but I will be doing some more thorough checking of the fitment and tolerances in the coming weeks. I will probably be going through a few revisions to stiffen it up and improve the fit where needed.
Back to the off-the-shelf solution; yesterday I found that AGA Tools offers a fix they've dubbed the Plug Saver. I feel a bit dumb that it took my so long to find it. But I will say that I don't fully agree with the use of heat treated steel in this application. It would be analogous to using titanium for door clips - a bit overkill. Subsequently, I don't really agree with the $29 price tag. In the process of revising and improving the design, I'd be more than happy to give out some free samples to interested parties on a first-come first-serve basis. If you are interested, reply and I will try to contact people as samples become available. And if anyone has feedback or ideas, I'm all ears. Eventually, if interest persists and there is some more 'fleet data' available, I may pop up a little Etsy store and sell them for ~$5 or so. And next on the docket; custom roundels (also attached). |

Should have left this as is. Would have provided confusing entertainment trying to figure it out on a Friday night....

It fit pretty tight around the port. Had to disconnect both connections to get it around the port but it worked well for the purpose I was after. |

My AUX port also fell through, I managed to reinstall it backwards in the meanwhile and it works so far but this is great to know!
