Rubbing/clicking noise

I know there are lots of "rubbing and clicking noise" threads out there but I can't find one similar to mine. Looking for a bit of trouble shooting...

-When going at slow speeds with barriers beside me and windows down, I can hear a clicking noise. As I speed up the clicking speeds up and as I slow down the clicking slows down. Can't really pin point where it's coming from though. Windows up and/or on open road with no barriers beside me, you can't hear anything.
-When driving between 80-100km/h there's a fairly loud rubbing sound. Or a clicking sound that's clicking so fast it sounds like a rubbing sound. But if I go the slightest bit faster than 100km/h the noise will go away

Ideas? I was thinking bearings, but that would be constant. Now I'm thinking driveshaft or diff?

I read your post the first time on my phone. Now that I am on my laptop I see you have an xdrive. How many miles on your 335? We had an X5 around 160k the front cv joints started clicking and click speed correlated with the vehicle speed. The clicking was more pronounced on the passenger side(which has the longer axle shaft). After I replaced them the clicking sound was gone.

Car has around 83,000km. That makes sense.. Could be a bit premature but the sound seems to be more pronounced on the passenger side as well. Any test for it? Or is it something a mechanic will notice if they look

On the X5 I could roll the windows down and make slow turns steering lock to steering lock, back and forth and could hear the clicking. I also had my son do it while I walked along side. Inspect the boots and see if there are any cracks. The boots crack and let the grease out and grime in and then the joint fails prematurely. On our X5 the passenger side had a small crack inside one of the folds.

Guy's when your referring to "the cv joint", do you mean, the final output shaft (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=31_0719) For me the sound is in the front end. My clicking started after I replaced both fronted wheel bearings. Is it possible while doing this job, if I left the output shaft hang I could have created/accelerated this problem? 2006 325XI 208,600+ miles.
