Black grills?

Hey guys-
I was in Europe last week and I happen to notice a brand new e92 (320d) in a dealership with a different grill than I had seen before. It had chrome around the edges but the slits were black. Anyone seen this before and know how to get one? I don't really want the all black ones but this looked really sharp. I went looking and it appears that 328i has the same grill as 335i standard so that's not it.

BTW - if you do the build your car on BMW website (BMWUSA.com) this is exactly how the grills look.

Thanks!

That type of grill is standard on e9x with 4 cylinder engines.

just make your own by ordering some matte black kidney grills, then replace the chrome slits with the matte black and put it on your stock chrome outter piece

That seems kind of weird. How would you re-attach? I figure easiest way is to order the part from europe.

That kind of grill is standard on the E90 328i here in the U.S I think. Check sig for reference. I really like the black slits and chrome outside too.

Thanks but the grills on the e92 and e90 are totally different. I believe the e92 in the US both 328 and 335 are both all chrome at least from the pics I could find.

It is quite simple actually, the kidney grills are two pieces, the inner and outter. They are attached to each other similar to how the grilles are attached to the bumper with plastic tabs. Thats why i say to get the matte kidney grilles so you can use the inner grille and attach it to your chrome outter piece, its a matter of snapping them on.. i recently did this myself except im using the the matte outer piece and the chrome inner grille, i might switch it around to see how the chrome and matte inner grille look. Hope this helps

On my first 335 coupe I had to get both kidney grilles replaced at different times due to the paint fading. The first one they replaced was all chrome, a month later when they replaced the second one they put on the one with the black grilles. I was going to have them change the other to the black, but my baby died before then. My 2nd child came with all chrome grilles. I think you can ask the dealership to change them for you, I plan on doing it.

+1

You can simply paint the outer rim and leave the slabs black.

Ha ha wouldn't that be nice! No went to France only for Xmas and New Years with the in-laws. I was looking for a better way to attach my euro plate so we stopped by a local dealership and I happened to notice the different kidney grills.
Thanks guys for your help! Once I save up a little cash I'll definately have to look more into it.

Its funny, I think those are "cheap" looking, probably because its the most comnon e92 grill here. I like it much better when the grill is all black or all chrome. I guess they look "exotic" to you US guys so you want it
