Update: $4600 in damage! Since they have to replace the entire door there's a ton of paint work to properly blend. Also, the B-pillar began to buckle at the bottom so that added a bunch more time to straighten/fix and repaint.

Crazy surprised at the amount.


My wife parked on a street she'd never been on in her Legacy on Saturday. She was running inside with a friend to see another friend's new apartment. They were inside less than 7 minutes.

She came out to this...



Thankfully no one hurt since the car was unoccupied and the guy who backed out and hit her was cool with her about it. Though as of 1:30 today he had not yet contacted his insurance company according to what they told me when I called them. I'm giving him until end of day to contact them since he said he would when I spoke to him this morning. If he hasn't done it by end of day I'll be contacting them directly and logging the claim with them myself since they said I could and I have all of his information.

Already reported to my insurance company but don't want to go through them at all since not our fault at all.

Goodluck on your ordeal! I wouldn't be as patient as you though. I'd probably contact him sooner rather than later

Yeah like I said I'll give him until end of day, holiday weekend and all, he may have been pretty busy and we couldn't have done anything about it until today anyhow. Not much I can do.

I'm not really sure how. There was my wife and two other friends with her, so we have witnesses and lots of photos of the accident.

Anyone who hits a parked car can't really "change their story"...clearly he wasn't looking where he was going while he was backing out. It's that simple. It could have been oncoming traffic, a pedestrian, a kid on a bike. He still would have hit those too.

My wife said he was very reasonable at the time of the incident and he sounded very reasonable to me on the phone today. Like I said, end of day, then I unleash wrath.

Call your insurance company that insures the car and let them handle it. And that is one wide-ass street; WTF?

Can't be sure if just the door or has B pillar issue too. Back door is interesting to open so that's why I'm thinking maybe B pillar too but can't really tell for sure.

I can't really shed a tear about a Legacy but sad trip though.
