unknown wire pair(connector) in battery box
I tried to do a search for this topic, may not have been creative enough to type in just the right thing. I was installing my blacklines today and while installing the one on the right that I noticed this. Once you remove the trunk panel for accessing the battery and rear light connection, down around the battery box there is a small pair of wires with a small connector that appears to go nowhere. Does anyone know what this is or have an actual connection with theirs? FYI Mine is Euro spec for Japan market so I don't know if that makes a difference or not as far as this wire pair/connector goes. Later I will post a pic and check to see if there is voltage on it.
any thoughts (useful) I would very much appreciate. And for those of you who might be tempted to jump to conclusions, No its not for my rear lights |

Not 100% sure, but I think I recall someone saying something about alarm pre-wiring.

My dealer told me that wire is used for BMW to connect a solar panel to in order to keep the battery charged during shipment prior to reaching the dealer.

Not sure why you are laughing. That is true. The dealer usually just tucks that wire under the bottom of the back seat on the right side. Go check your car where the bottom of the seat meets the carpet. Pull it up a little and you should see 2 wires with a small connector. It is used to maintain the battery while traveling from the plant to the dealer.

Ahh yea that make sense. I have heard of those used. Thanks guys I had forgotten all about those chargers. VW uses them as well as probably all manufactures now.
Thanks Shawn |

I think I have the same thing.
I noticed when I unplugged the battery to install the M steering wheel. Here's a pic:

The battery switch is connected to that connector which is removed during the PDI (pre-delivery inspection).
Battery switches are installed so that onces its on the carrier they can "disconnect" the battery from the car via switch in the car. |
