2013 X5M Issues

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and hate to introduce myself by asking questions, but I'm in a pickle with my 2013 X5M.

It has 85K miles and it frequently goes into low-power mode after moderate acceleration (e.g., Engine Malfunction, Entering Reduced Power Mode). It also has an oil leak that for the life of me I can't ID the source.

From what I've read here, the engine issue is likely the coils/plugs and perhaps the fuel injectors. Is there anything else? I ordered this scanner to help diagnose: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The local BMW dealership quoted $7800 to fix everything; they were vague on the engine issue and said the oil leak is from the oil pan. Tough to justify spending $8K on a car now worth less than $25K. So I'm looking to fix it myself; pointers are much appreciated!

Yes, you will have to read error codes to pin point the fault. But it won't be anything too serious, I promise!

Awesome, thanks Richard! Do you know if the engine has to be removed to fix the oil pan leak?

Engine does not need to be remove.
Both front axle , front drive shaft and the differential needs to be remove.

7800.....gotta love that //M tax!!! First thing to do: change all of your plugs and coils, it's something all N63 and S63 engines go through around 75-100k. It's very easy to do.

Plugs: Go with NGK or Bosch, go 1 step colder if you plan on tuning it, 2, steps if you really want to push it. Expect to pay no more then 8 to 11 a plug.

Coils: Change ALL of them, do not just change a few, they all start to go bad at the same time. Choose Eldor, they are the best, second is Bremi third Delphi, four the is Bosch (Germany), AVOID Bosch Slovenia unless you like pain. Expect to pay 35-50 each depending on brand.

9 times out of 10 this will take care of issues. If not next is to look into vacuum leaks (CCV tubes) and Injectors last (they are 225 each!)

Make sure that your car is in the injector recall otherwise the worst case scenario could be the crank case ventilation pipe and or coil's
