E70 LCI folding mirror help pls
Morning all, new here and looking for some advice. I've always found answers over the last 20 years on forums using the search function etc. But I'm stumped this time. I have recently acquired an E70 LCI with memory seats and camera in wing mirrors. The mirrors tilt, but the passenger mirror won't fold when pressing the button inside the vehicle. The drivers side does. My question is, where the heck is the motor for it? I can't hear any motor sound when the button is pressed. I've taken it somewhat apart. Is it in the arm of the mirror? And can it even be replaced? Any advice would be greats, Cheers all

Pretty sure it's in the arm.
See details at: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/images/diag_4fxb.png |

Cheers for the reply buddy. I had checked Realoem pictures but didn't really confirm it. But logic is telling me it has to be in the arm due to where it folds....just hoping I can try and replace the motor only...fingers crossed. Cheers again

It's probably hidden under the bottom plastic part. I have the exact problem but opposite of you, the right side fold but the driver doesn't. I've had the motor in my toolbox for at least three months now waiting for some time to do this. However I still haven't found a tutorial for it.
Good luck and let us know if you do find how to replace it. |

step 1-image 1 Fold outside mirror (1) forwards. Remove cap (2). step 2-image 2 Press together catches (1) of plug (2) and press plug (2) through in outward direction. Unlock plug (2) on contact carrier (3) and pull out. step 3-image 3 Carefully release catches (1). Feed out mirror electronics (2) with cable.

Cheers again for the reply, decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a new one. So will likely dismantle the old and check. I don't figure it's item 8. That's the motor to tilt etc. The fold must be in the arm like i circled, cheers again. Will update once taken apart

Just a follow up....I replaced my mirror and thankfully replacement worked. I managed to locate the motor, but couldn't access it. It's under a black plastic cover held in by 3 or 4 screws. But you'd need to split the top and bottom section to access it. I tried but to no avail. And in all honestly, the amount of plastic you need to remove and hope to not snap any bits off, it's not worth it imo. Anyway, few pics for reference

M539 Restorations does this fix a few times on his youtube channel. It is not for the faint of heart. Can't remember exactly which episodes, but all of his content is fantastic!
