New Guy...'12 X5M ...Couple of questions
Hey Guys,
Impulse buy, 2012 X5M, fully loaded with 40K miles. I test drove it and felt great, no rattles/noises etc. I usually do my homework before buying any vehicle let alone this beast, but it was too good of a car to pass up hence the impulse buy. Checked it out with a paint meter but both front fenders won't register at all. Are they CF or some other material? The front fenders where the hood shut close, seemed to have a slight sharp edge as if the fender material is rolled in? I did not see any Vin stickers on the front fenders, OK? Any issues/concerns with wheel bearings whine or brakes squeak noise, I didn't hear/feel anything? True? Any inherited issues with S63 engine (oil consumption/stretched chains and battery replacements)? Is buying an extended warranty a must or do we have high mile members here without many issues/concerns? Scheduling a PPI, anything I need to pay more attention to? Thank Last edited by quick; 01-21-2019 at 07:15 AM.. |

Congrats! I've owned a '12 X5M for about 6 months now. Mine has 85k miles & I'm loving it. I've only put about 3k miles on it so I haven't driven it a ton. We put the miles on my wife's "beater" '13 X3 Msport whenever we're running around town or when the parking situation is unknown. I'm not parking my beast next to a Civic in a small parking garage!
I did do the Velos tune and highly recommend a tune. I'm also a little paranoid about reliability, but I'm rolling the dice and will just fix what breaks. Given the mileage on mine, I'll probably flush all the fluids soon as preventative maintenance. Overall it's a great vehicle so far...fingers crossed. Keep us posted on your journey.

Bought ours with 38k miles a couple years ago. Have about 85k miles now.
Had both airbags replaced along with injectors and fuel pump under campaign. Bought extended warranty through Carmax and so far has been worth it. Front hydraulic sway bar Coolant lines from leaks Vacuum hose leaks Expansion tank leaks Coolant lines leaks Engine bay trim replacement Passenger seat side bolsters Driver and passenger thigh support motors All in all, mainly being labor, the warranty has covered about 11k in costs so I’ve saved about 5k when you factor in the expense of warranty and deductibles. It’s a beast for sure. Get paint protection on those rear fenders ASAP! They will get beaten by road debris if haven’t already. |

Just contacted Autopom and they do not cover the X5M. It might be a case by case basis by state though as Autopom is a broker. So no X5M coverage by Autopom in WA state.

Not sure in which state OP is. I got coverage on my x5m in California by Autopom but it was in 2017. Maybe they stopped covering the vehicle considering the repairs are expensive. My repairs more then 10 k were covered

In KY and my local BMW dealer offered me 4/48 for $6800 so I think I am going for it. I might be able to negotiate it a little bit at the time of purchase but for now I think I would do it.
It's going for inspection tomorrow before the warranty could be sold. |

Alot of the aftermarket 3rd party warranties have stopped covering M cars completly. Your best bet is if your dealer has a company that offers a warranty and even that is tought when they run the vin to search and it shows as a M car.

Is it good to have a warranty though? It seems like most issues are covered under extended warranty for 10/120,000 miles any way.
The Vent lines, injectors and the drive shaft? what other problems have you all have had or could possibly happen? |

Autopom does cover X5M in KY with very reasonable rates The question now is, Autopom being a broker, how would we know what company/ies, they are using and how reliable those are?
