The i4 M50 xDrive has proper M seats standard. Similar to M4 standard ones, only minor differences in upholstery. You can get these M seats optional (option code 711) to 3 and 4 series models in conjunction with M Sport package.

Not as standard, it's an optional extra. And no choice for Merino leather unfortunately.

New M headlights – is it known whether these will be a different shape, or simply a different light signature inside?

The leaked pics of G87's front bumper suggest different headlight shapes for M cars could now be a thing (G20/G80 difference aside).

We have the M4 Gran Coupe. Although It's the i4 M50. It looks seriously fast on a track.
It may be fast but can it go trough more than one 30min session before needing a recharge.. ?

We start to see more and more EV's come to the track and without chargers at the track they rarely do a full day. Having to exit to find a supercharger that is available and losing almost half your sessions gets boring pretty fast.

I just don't see EV being viable for track day fun until batteries can go 2k km on a charge and weight nothing so cars can be reasonable weight to be ok on consumables.

Really makes you wonder what the internal discussions were on this.

So no M4 GC, instead they made the high performance electric in the gran coupe form. They went as far as putting a lot of M model specific things on it like the mirrors (never seen that on M performance model before), seats look damn close to the M seats...
But WHY not just make it the iM4??? give it that little extra power the IX M60 will have, full blown M hood, wider rear, full M interior. Charge $80,000 for it. OR maybe thats coming in 1-2 years
Perhaps that's all that BMW could come up with and it didn't quite fit to become a full "M4". Not saying that they're half-assing it, but if the i4 M50i was really an electric M car, people would be losing their shit right now. I'm ok with the electric line up and knowing electric M cars are coming is enough for me. I would rather a complete model than have something that lacks in areas that carries a $100k price tag (see: eTron GT RS, Taycan).

I was thinking the same thing? The only thing I don't get about the bumper leak.

Probably because they don't have the ability to extinguish a lithium battery 🔥

Makes sense to some degree but also seams very shortsighted

Must not want the liability

I expected to see more electric BMWs in the pipeline, I hope a more modern version of I8 gets on the drawing board soon.
Wishful thinking.

I'd like to see a real performance hybrid, like a M240i or M340i that can do 50-60miles on pure charge for daily commute and rip it at the track on weekend without fear of running out of charge.

I do not think technology is available for this yet, at realistic real world pricing.

You'll see it soon though.

W206 C63 is said to have 65km range, so about 40 miles. That is the latest and greatest unreleased tech. Although those figures are estimates, could be more or less pure electric range.

I must have missed this detail along the way, could you point me to where this is shown/written for both (seats and mirrors)? Is this the new situation for only new BMWs?

40 miles of range is super pathetic

With todays battery tech it becomes a packaging problem when designing hybrid cars(batteries, electric motors, combustion engine, auto trans, and all components that go along with both systems). You can only find room for so many batteries. Doing this all while also trying to keep weight down some what, has to be difficult. It isn't like a pure EV, where you can keep packing in battery cells all while having room for electric motors and even two trunks(front/rear).

There really isn't anywhere else to put batteries, unless they start eating into trunk space(which I would guess is already happpening).

Way to complex to own IMO

I understand what you're saying and it's valid for sure I still think 40 miles is pathetic

I'd rather have one electric car and the other gas until the packaging and weight is seriously reduced

I hear you, definitely a valid take.

Merc is going to sell it as trickle down tech from Formula 1. Using the E-turbo, it is rather interesting tech to be honest. Here is a video describing how system works.
