Since the weather is ruining the Memorial Day weekend for many of us in the northeast USA, I'm using the indoor time to figure out the travel logistics for our SC closing next month. Direct flights from the small international airport about 5 minutes away from home are dirt cheap, but the automotive chip shortage and rental fleet downsizing from COVIDgeddon have made it all but impossible to get a rental car down south. No way am I paying over $500 to rent an econo-crackerbox for two days! (My preferred car rental company has *zero* availability in the region next month.)

I'm thinking about driving the Mighty Dodge down for the closing, leaving it for a week at the airport while we fly home, and then flying back the next weekend to pick it up and drive home. I'm also considering renting a self-store space and leaving the truck there for the summer, so that we can fly down a few weekends and go visit the property, interview contractors, etc. I don't expect the chip supply problem to be resolved before fall, so I need to figure out all of my options.....

My plans were changed overnight, when I flushed the toilet and discovered that the water is not working. Had to call 5 well pump people before finding one who can come out today, because everyone including our preferred plumber is away for the holidays.....

Went to Terre Haute to a deli that was recommended to us. First time eating out at a restaurant in 14 months. They had decent outside seating, but everything else about it sucked. Slooooow service and lousy food. We were seriously disappointed.

On the other hand, there was a grocery store we went to afterward that was a cross between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. They had lots of good stuff, so the trip wasn't a total loss.

Our water heater died last week. Amazingly, it didn't wait until the weekend to die, which is what usually happens to us. So we were able to get it replaced before the weekend.

Treated ourselves to a nice foodie weekend. Saturday had a real late lunch and watched some movies at home. Sunday took a nice ride inland to a new spot on the river. Just needed to get out of our town for once. Been to all those spots 100 times.

Food ended up being great both places although entirely different experiences. And a quick dip while the lifeguard was on duty
