Swapping a N63 with a S63

Alright engine builders. I know the blocks are the same and all accessories will bolt back on but anything else? I’ve read that the manifolds are different?

Everything will bolt up but the DME's are different and there are a few key internal differences that will cause issues. The S63 has lower compression forged Pistons and a different exhaust camshaft then the N63, so you really need to swap over the turbos and upper intake, intercoolers, DME, etc. It can definitely be done but you just can't swap the block.

Mr. Rednex, you know whats weird? When i removed the front crank cover on my S63, the front of the block reveals a big “N63” imprinted on the block. But outside the engine code states S63xxx.

Not surprising, the S63 starts off life as a N63, then gets all the upgrades to make it the S63 but the core block/heads/crank/rods etc are the same to keep production costs down. BMW lost money on the S65 so no more M only engines, instead they make a base engine for the 50i, 550, etc to sell much more units and bring production in-line then upgrade it to make it M worthy.

As others said everything is different, from coolers to transmission.
