Spare tire

I paid the $150 in my new 540i for the spare tire in the trunk and I am having serious buyers remorse. The container that the spare tire is in is so high that it makes the trunk so small that even a regular size cooler now must go in my backseat and I am struggling to get two sets of golf clubs in a trunk that should be larger than the trunk in my 435

Has anyone ever asked to have it removed and carpeting installed in its place in the trunk aftermarket?

You could order the proper parts to switch over, or post on here to potentially find a willing partner who wants the spare to swap all the relevant parts.

A wrecked car would have the parts much cheaper of course. If you have never used car-part.com, maybe now is the time.

It seems silly that we now have to PAY for a spare tire to begin with.

Too bad the truck of modern BMWs are not designed to carry a spare tire. My wife's Mazda CX-5 has a full size spare 20 inch wheel hidden in the trunk area.

You bought it from BMW? Take it back and tell them they gave you the wrong one. Past that, unless you think you'll really be in a pinch and stuck in the middle of no where, not much benefit to have a spare tire. I just drove nearly 2,500 miles in my E90 in one stint with my non-runflats and no spare without worrying about it much. I have AAA and roadside assistance through my insurance as well though.

This is why I keep a $9 bottle of fill-a-flat in my trunk...

Anyone that's ever raced their car will tell you the opposite; couldn't wait to ditch my RFT for real rubber lol.

The raised rear deck doesn't take that much room. There's room for far more than 2 sets of golf clubs, including the cooler. Drop the seats and you can sleep in there.

If you have a sedan you can strap/hang a tire in the trunk. Check it out....it gives you more room and let's you access the hidden compartment.
