Rear vent removal - help needed!

Hey guys. As you can see in the pic my adjuster tab thing is missing from my left vent. I have a new one on order - entire vent assembly. For my F23 and F30/31 they just pull out. Can anyone confirm removal on the E70 would be the same? Any DIY assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Christ. That's a lot more involved than I was anticipating.

Thanks for sending though.

Mine looks the same....one of my kids must've kicked the adjuster. Let me know what you end up doing?

Been there done that!
Yes my kid kicked that same adjuster out on my e70. I found it on the floor and hadn't a clue what it was but could tell it was a BMW part, so kept in on the garage bench until I realized where it had come from.
It is INSANELY HARD to re-insert that adjuster tab back into the vents!!!
Its got a little piece that snaps onto the adjuster arms from the BACK-side of the vents. I had to make a special tool to hold it inside there between the vent vanes with pliers, while I snapped the front piece into it. God awful job, I was cursing up a storm.

I hate that you had to pay $$$ for a whole vent assembly for just that missing tab. And the TIS install process looks even worse than what I went through. :-(

Next time I just leave it missing.

Mine was the same... I just glued the front visible piece back on for now. Looks stock, but doesn't move or do anything.

I'll attempt install as soon as the weather brakes I can't stomach dealing with this much garage time when it's pushing 100 outside.

I'm annoyed with the complexity of job I need ideal circumstances to ensure I don't lose my shit. That said I do actually need to be able to aim air for the dog back there so I'll have to tackle this eventually. I did get the part from Sun for just under $100 so not horrible all told. But on any other car I have it's a 5 minute job, this is just nuts.

I tried to swap the vent without following that DIY and it was a major pain in the ass and not worth attempting. If you're going to swap just follow those instructions you'll be done in under an hour.

Once I gave up trying to cheat it was smooth sailing. Broke one retaining pin that will be replaced tomorrow. Really not a horrible install - more complicated than it should be but easy enough if you just do it the right way. FYI I did not pull the front seats.

Go to venttabs.com and save yourself a lot of time and money. I purchased the tabs for my E70 and they work flawlessly.

That would have been helpful 7 days and $100 ago...

I'm just annoyed in general. Broke a retaining clip not in stock at dealer so 2 trips and $3 for a little piece of plastic.

Newer cars the vent assembly literally just pulls out. E70 you're like 1 step shy of having to drop the tranny to access retaining bolts under the car. It's just way over engineered and complicated.
