Fix the stripes in the front grills with some blue paint. No idea why they're silver when we bought the SAV

Lapping the valves then decarbonizing, cleaning & Porting and polishing the heads continues....What started as simple valve stem seal replacement led to this once I saw the valves were pitted....overall going to have 30+ hours in each head.

Granted I didn't have to port and polish but figured what the heck while had everything apart. Will improve performance a bit, especially with better intake manifolds to match. Going to polish the pistons and combustion chambers too, will check back after 10K miles with a borescope and see it it makes a difference on carbon buildup

Very nicely done Rednex,
Also wondering if you’re replacing the rod bearing? I would like to see what condition it’s in at that mileage.

Thanks Twin, after I am done with the top end, I'm going to replace the oil pump just as preventative maintenance and I think I will pull a couple caps off and see how the bearings look while I am in there. The cylinder walls look great so hopefully the rod bearings do too. Will be another week or two before I am at that point but will update here with pics when I do it.

Hey sophisticated redneck, been a long time since I've been on here... how's your catch can setup doing? I sold my X5M, but still have these custom machined fittings if you're interested.

BMW 35D X Drive

Hi

I have recently bought a x5 35d M Sport. This is my first move to a 4x4 so forgive me for asking any common knowledge questions.

The car is currently giving me 25mpg (well according to the computer). I am thinking of getting the ecu remapped to make the car more economical has anyone does (any problems)

I have ordered the new android head units but i have been told this can affect sound volumes in the vehicle. Anyone had this problem.

The guy i had purchased the vehicle from said the rear diff packed up so he had one ordered and reconditioned since then he has had no problems. Anyway i can ensure the rear diffs are solid?.

I want to ensure i maintain the car as best as possible so any advise would be helpful.

Do an ABC delete and you'll have a completely new beast of an x5.

I spent most of Saturday morning installing the AVIN android head unit I purchased during their cyber Monday sale. After experiencing CarPlay in my new i3, I started researching ways of integrating it into my X5M. I also really like the look of the larger display and the flexibility to use it with many different apps. After the install, I washed the M then headed out to a do a shoot for a client that ended a bit early, so I found myself with a few cameras and some time to kill. Here's a few photos I snapped in a local garage I used to shoot cars in back when I was in college well over 10 years ago.

I'm running into a couple challenges with the AVIN unit and thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas...

1) The screen size is slightly off when using the OEM system. It appears to be cropped slightly in on the left hand side of the screen. Does anyone know what setting I should be using for a CIC setup that will not crop it?

2) I'd love to continue using the built in OEM bluetooth for music, phone and siri. It seems to be hit or miss whether or not the CarPlay system uses it's CarPlay audio or the bluetooth. When I place a call, it goes through the OEM system 100% of the time, but when I try and use CarPlay to respond to a txt, it doesn't always do the same. As for music, it always seem to switch to CarPlay when it connects, then I have to switch it back to the OEM bluetooth to get the music to work through that. I understand I could just use the CarPlay for everything, but I didn't want to run an additional mic as I like how well the OEM mic works for phone calls. Anyone have any experience/tips on how I can make that work?

Replaced engine partitions with new ones, replaced the rear drivers roof drain line that was pinched between two wire looms, then got some inspiration from a member here on a custom intake set up! Ended up just using a 3">3.5" reducer, maf sensor, 3.5" 90, 3.5" coupler, to an afe 72-90099 filter. Seems pretty sturdy now but I'll probably secure it a bit more. Whole lot more room though!

I replaced the front brakes with Brakentic cross drilled/slotted rotors and posi-quiet pads. I also took the opportunity to clean all the build up out from the inside of the wheels. About an hour of scrubbing and using Adam's wheel cleaner I was able to get them looking a bit better.

Well haha... I haven't been able to drive my x5 yet. Waiting on my dde. Holidays aren't a great time for shipping. My DDE comes in Thursday though so once I drive I'll report back!

I have to do this on my X5 3.5i tomorrow. Any tips or tricks ? Also, did you use the BMW bleeding procedure when you refilled the tank with coolant?

Thanks!
