Why do people hate on the X6M?

Here is why I love it!

It was not until I just bought one recently, and started reading reviews for the heck of it, did I notice how much the car world seems to hate it / or not understand it. Review after review, I began to wonder if these people were even really car people at all? Do they not get it? They all seem to think it’s an SUV, or have no clue what it is. Comment after Comment is “it does not make sense” or “what is it”. So, they obviously just don’t get it for whatever reason. Those of you who own one, probably understand.
The love for me started years ago, when I first saw my first X6. I fell in love. I think it looks amazing and has a very unique look to it. This car is not an SUV, even though it shares the platform with the X5. It is obvious it is really a Full-Sized Cross-Over. Half Sedan, half SUV, that is a Cross-Over. The issue is, most Cross-Overs on the market are small, really small. You could not really pull a camper or trailer with them, not much power, small inside. But, they are very popular because they give you a little bit of car, and a little bit of an SUV, and they look cool! Let’s just say I knew I found my new vehicle after 2 years of searching for the one that checks on the boxes I wanted with the X6M. The X5M, sorry is too boxy looking for me. To squared off from the rear. The extra “cargo room” is meaningless to me, are you guys moving furniture weekly? I doubt many people who own a M car, are loading it up with junk week after week, at least to the point that an X6 could not hold.
I wanted something that could pull a camper, or a trailer, and looked more sporty than your average SUV. Not going to happen with a Sedan really.., I am not really a full sized truck kind of guy, even though I did look at the new Raptors. So what do I get? Nothing was really what I wanted 100%. I like the new Jaguar F Pace, but still not super powerful. I do like that new Range Rover.. but..I then found the X6M, and I knew it was perfect for me. I have no kids, just a woman and 2 dogs. 2+2 is just fine for my family. I have yet to not be able to fit everything I did in my Audi Q7 I just migrated from. Not to mention, it is a car enthusiast car!
The X6M comes in as a way to make the tiny low powered Cross-Overs, into a full-sized version, with a ton of power. Since it borrows the platform of the X5, guess what, you can pull up to 6,000 lbs, it handles better than the X5M, and it is just as fast as an M3 Coupe. In my world, it is the best vehicle for me.
The only other vehicle I considered was a Grand Cherokee SRT. While those are fun, and fast, they are no where near as refined as the BMW. The Jeep’s interior is junk, go look at one that is only 3 or 4 years old and you will see what I am talking about.
All in all, I love the X6M. It is the PERFECT vehicle for someone who likes cars, but needs all wheel drive, and some added benefits of the SUV power and size.

As with any vehicle...one vehicle, one buyer...

It boils down to this...subjective bullshit....who cares. It’s a hell of a vehicle...one many will only see the ass end of...

I love the X6M! If I sell my activehybrid i would definitely consider getting a new x6m. It’s the perfect base for mods which would make it a 700+ hp luxury suv.

I bought it with my own requirements in mind. Could not care less what other people think.

The X5 is a SAV, the X6 is an SAC which is the BMW acronym for Sports Activity Coupe.

Try telling people that it's a Sport Activity Coupe and the look of utter confusion will wash across their faces.

You realize the x6m and x5m are exactly the same motor, trans and drive systems? They are identical in terms of actual performance.

i guess these haters are more likely Jeremy Clarkson..

at some point i agree with him.. its an SUV but cant go beyond light off road.. more likely pavement.. other wise M suspension doesnt like gravel and stuff like that at all.. its pretty heavy but wants to go fast also.. how fast? like stage 2 Golf R.. a Golf in the end.. how to achieve this? massive brakes, big engine bad millage, heavy maintenance fees, and a lot complicated electronics.. does it worth.. yeah X5M or X6M is not logical cars.. they are fantasy cars.. for me.. at least i call them fantasy cars.. cause they are beefy, like huge bodybuilders on competitions.. its crazy.. it draws everyones attention.. but how many people d like to be like that? not much..

no they re not..

E71 X6M is almost 100kg lighter than E70 X5M.. you can guess the rest..

for newer F85 X5M and F86 X6M..
F86 X6M is lower, longer and a bit more wider.. F86M is more sharper on corners.. and for double checking, you can check the lap times of these vehicles for terms of actual performance as you ve said.. you ll see the differences..

People either love it, or hate it. There is no in between. I loved it from before it was a production vehicle. I was part of a focus group when it was just a concept.

It's the perfect blend of sports car and SUV. I relate it to a 6 series and an X5 having a baby. The best of both parents.

The original E71 was a completely different platform and chassis than the E70. I went from a 2008 X5 4.8i to a 2010 X6 50i and the difference in handling and power blew me away. The 2010 X6 was probably my all time favorite vehicle, hands down.

Believe it or not, yes. The 2010 just blew me away. Ride, handling, comfort, stance and no electric steering. And that exhaust note It was a freakin beast. And those multi contour comfort seats. I miss them. The Nappa leather was so soft, it was like sitting on your favorite leather jacket. They were cushy and so comfortable, the side bolsters just grabbed and hugged you and kept you in place.

The 2019 has better tech and the 8 speed transmission in an improvement. The new seats look cool but they are no where as comfortable as the old.

Don't get me wrong, I like the '19 but the '10 will always be my favorite.

^thanks for that. I was loosely contemplating trading in.. specifically for the newer HUD, digital tach , adaptive cruise and the 8 sp. But think you sold me on keeping my E71 awhile longer.

I would say if you are happy with your E71 and you are problem free, hold on to it. The E71 was more of a drivers car, and what you would expect from a BMW. Good luck.

Damn, good job packing! I have had 5 in my X5M for a few hours, but not so much luggage. Of course when I go snowboarding, I throw my cargo box on the roof rack, much easier than having snowy boards and boots in the car!

Thanks! We do have a Thule that I can put on the hitch if we need, but the X6 has all the utility of the X5 unless you need something tall.

A GLE coupé passed us with a rear box and roof box

"its an SUV but cant go beyond light off road" That's why they called it SAC although agree most people will go "Coupe" say what. In reality how many people actually take their $60k-$80k SUV really off road.

Some hate on the X6M because it is a BMW, others because of the style, few others because they had a bad experience with a BMW or heard from a friend of a friend, and then there are those that never drove a BMW so do not understand what the driving experience is like.....

I never concern myself with what others think of one of my vehicles. I just enjoy the drive.

Like many here never worried about people liking my car , I buy cars for me. Mecerdes Benz hated it so much that as Motortrend stated "they took out the tracing paper".
