Unboxing Pics

Nice and simple packaging, but like we all expected no instructions are included.

Exclamation Installation Instructions

Ok, all you X5 guys... Disregard the install video in the first post. You do NOT need to remove your screen as a part of the install. Wish I would have had these instructions before I pulled my screen last night. Sorry for the image quality, I had to shrink it considerably to be able to upload to the forum.

Hope it's got some significant noise-free gain on the AUX-IN line.

A couple of questions:
  • How do you plan to run the mic permanently?
  • Is the mic only to operate Siri or for phone calls as well?
Thanks!

  1. My goal is to pop the over head console and figure out a way to hide the mic in there. If that doesn't work, then it will probably end up behind the mirror near the roof line. For now, it's just sitting next to a cup holder and picking up voices surprisingly well.
  2. I think it depends on how you have your phone paired. My phone is currently using the smart box and also paired to the car bluetooth. So siri uses the mic attached to the smart box, but phone calls continue to use the OEM mic.

Do you plan to continue to use the Aux jack to connect the mic or will you be wiring it another way.

The mic doesn’t need to be plugged in the center armrest does it? From my understanding there is a aux hook up on the unichip box no?

The aux hook up plug is on the harness.

Is there an interest in another group buy? I was led to this thread from a Z4 forum, but was a few weeks late to join. If there’s a chance for another one please let me know. Thanks!

MAKE SURE you have a quality MFI certified cable to connect your phone.

Make sure that you connect the aux cable to the aux out and make sure that the media output is set to AUX. Then you should have sound.

Anyone have issues getting the box to fit in the dash. Can you help me? I seem to be having issues getting eh unit and additional wiring to fit.

That did it! Thank you! So the aux cord in the harness needs to be run to the factory aux plug in the center arm rest for anyone yet to install, that’s kind of a pain in the neck. I’ll have to run the usb and the aux cord under the console and drill a hole so all the wires are hidden. To address your question the only spot that it will really fit is under the driver footwell. Throw some zip ties on it to a bracket and you should be good.
