H&R Lowering Springs review in 2022 ( e70 x5m )

I believe this is my first post. Im Jermaine aka Schwaggy aka imSchwaggy aka mrbadspendinghabits . But anyhow .

Bought my e70 x5m about a week ago. Been documenting everything ive done, as I do with every other car ive owned.

Before purchasing:
I was reading a lot of reviews about the H&R Lowering springs + Links .
I saw lots of mixed reviews , mainly negative or less than favorable reviews .
- Which was pretty confusing because its H&R a pretty well known brand in the bimmer community and ive ran their products on e36s, e38s, e53s, etc .

So I found a set online for $200 including the struts, which unfortunately had the edc module removed and the wire cut so they were rendered useless. (it gets worse)

The install:

Pretty straight forward, my boy owns a tire/alignment shop so he's who I always have do the suspension work on my cars (besides air suspension, I do those myself).

Not hard to remove from the car, should take about 2-4 hours to get everything done properly, and put it back together. Was charged $200 per usual, so not bad at all.

Issues:
So, if you don't buy it new, and you purchase used from an unintelligent person. You will have lowering links that don't work because the inner clip is broken and they will not have disclosed that in the ad. Leaving you to believe that you're SOL unless you have ista+ or an expensive diagnostic scanner thingy to code the bags lower.

Misconceptions:
You need lowering links. WRONG.
Without lowering links you need to code the bags lower. WRONG

You in fact do not need/ to do either of those. The self leveling suspension will adjust itself automatically.

After install. Turn the ignition on (not the engine). Wait a few seconds. The car will settle, then the back will lower itself accordingly. You will hear the car doing its thing.

So, After reading reviews. I was expecting the car to be rougher, less luxurious, less comfortable, and far stiffer than stock. That is 100% incorrect. Not only does the car handle bumps BETTER, but it feels more planted while turning at speed. Usually, when you take off ramps at 60-90, things in the back fly from side to side, and clunk about. Not anymore. They do slide around, but way slower, and you dont hear the loud thud when it hits from side to side. Also, when you floor it, it feels more stable when the back squats then transfers weight back to the front.

Im really wondering if people installed the struts incorrectly. Because while we were installing we noticed things seem to only go in one way like the strut tops. (all the previous maintenance was done at the dealership, everything had colored markings so you lined things up properly).

In summation:
The H&R lowering springs is the best bang for your buck when it comes to lowering the car, and at least from our install. You do not need the adjustable links, nor to program the bags lower. The SAV will adjust itself accordingly with the stock links keeping the factory rake with the back about 1" higher than the front.

So, if you're thinking about getting them and lowering your e70 X5m a bit, without going to coilovers or bags right away. This is definitely the way to go.

Hope this helps.
