Thats a very brave or crazy thing to want to do! You will need more than the engine. You will need also the gearbox, and computer and idrive. And of course a mechanic and auto electritian who is just as crazy as you are.
You will need to find a X6M that has had a total loss accident and hope all the parts above are salvageable. But i fear that your total cost will equal trading in your 3.5L in for a 2nd hand M from germany. Hence the point? i see you are in Vietnam. What are the import duties on cars there? |

Ok here it goes
first you will get hit with a big hammer 83% import tax then ON TOP OF THAT, you will get crushed with 50% special consuming tax then ON TOP OF THAT, you will get 10% VAT tax when you finally gets your car ready, you will need to pay 10% more for registration fee. It will be 15% this year. With all the money you pay to Vietnam government, you can buy almost 3 same cars in USA. i bought my X6 3.5l for 200,000usd. They sell 5.0L for 230,000usd 95% X6 in Vietnam is 3.5L. Tax rate is most outrageous in the world. |

ok so then i apologize for saying you are crazy. changing your 3.5l to an M if you get the parts is actually a very sensible thing to do. It will be much much cheaper.
If you import a car 2nd hand from europe. Is the tax also so high on 2nd hand cars? Is the tax based on 2nd hand value or depreciated new value? |

If you say they won't import them, what do you do when you need parts for the engine you are trying to acquire? What do you do for a software update?

because if he get X6M shipped in, on top of 100k he has to pay for the car, he faces with 200k for tax alone. So it is understandable that he want to buy the engine.
Minime, I wonder why you need X6M power. Even x35 is already too much for streets in Vietnam where local street speed limit is 30-40km/h ~25mph and our "turtle" highway speed limit is 50-60km/h ~40mph. You can not enjoy the power, why bother spend the money. If you really, really want X6M, wait 2 years and buy a used X6M, it should drop to around 60k which will be more reasonable and cost less. Buy engine alone won't chnage your X6 to a X6M. |

If you make enough money to afford the 200k usd for 30i... then you either own a factory, real estate, or both. You are likely to only make more money in the future since that country is an absolute nightmare when it comes to accepting foreign nationals doing business within their borders. So your competition is non-existent.
I was contracted to consult on some recycling facilities there, and let's just say after 2 weeks I realized there was no point. I opted out after 2 weeks instead of staying 6 months. Everyone had their hand out. Even people that couldn't justify having their hand out. The cost of doing business in 3rd world countries comes with unforeseen expenses that are just unacceptable. I was there to help implement practices that would result in enormous amounts of income for the clients I was working with. But what it cost me to get simple answers was ridiculous. A friend of mine wanted to get into the telecommunications business in cambodia (different country, I know!!) and they had him paying bribes all the way up the ladder, till finally he got to the head of telecommunications and was told that they were content with their current providers. Cost him almost $1,000,000.00 USD and he was left with nothing. Don't get me wrong, I love south east asia. Amazing culture and truly amazing people. But what you people do to your lower class is just disgusting, on so many levels. I apologize if I offend you in anyway, I just felt the need to express the fact that 90% of the population in vietnam, laos, cambodia will never rise above the street level no matter how hard they work. Which to me, being american, is a very sad thing to see. |
