Front window one-click not working... but this is different

2012 BMW X5 xdrive35i

Hey Folks.

Yes. I've scoured the internet. Yes. I've scoured the forums. However, this particular issue of mine does not work with any remedy that I can find. If curious, hear me out.

Issue: Front driver side and passenger side's windows have an issue where the auto-UP function does not work. The auto-DOWN works. I am certain that the window regulators are workings fine--never displayed any grinding or struggling noises ever. All other functions works smooth like butter. Rear windows work perfectly.

Self troubleshooting notes: Tried the anti-trap reset (holding down for 15 seconds, then up all the way, 3 seconds, etc). Car does not make any chime noises or display the anti-trap reset icon. Essentially, no response from the car. If i do this a few times, the "down" switch/action becomes completely unresponsive, only to work again after a few hours. Very mysterious.

When did this first occur?: One day, many years ago, my car had just simply died and will not start up. I changed the battery, but the car would just not start at all. No power to ANYTHING. Eventually I took my car to a shop that noted:
CUSTOMER STATE CAR WON'T START
FOUND FAULT CODE 2A61 SUPPLY VOLTAGE
RELAY FAULTY
REPLACED SUPOPLY MODULE (IVM)
PROGRAMMED AND CALIBRATED
(total cost $650.29, yes I think I got ripped off)

After a few weeks (I was busy), I went back to the shop to get them to fix my window, but guess what? They SHUT DOWN THE SHOP! Since then I've tried taking my car to a few "BMW Specialists" but none of them were able to figure it out. They tried resetting some settings with INPA but nothing worked. They tried the anti-trap reset procedures. At the end, they suggest that I replace the window regulators, but I can't see how that would fix something that is apparently a software issue. They are not sure if it would remedy the problem either.

Thanks for reading this far. At this point, I've really given up, and posting here is my last Hail Mary. If you're a genius, or have experienced this exact same thing, I would appreciate your thoughts.

My guess is fried FRM. I fried my e90 FRM when using ISTA and hooking up a charger, and would have to hold the button to get windows up.

Assuming it is a bad FRM, I ordered a used FRM on ebay and coded it with protools. Other option is having your FRM repaired at some place like DUDMD

Thanks for sharing your experience. I get a hunch that this may be the case. Is repairing/replacing the FRM a costly ordeal?

Repair is $100 at DUDMD, plus you have to ship the unit to them. If you don't own Protools/bimmercode or have the appropriate software to code an FRM to your car this is the route I would go.

I don't know where its located on the e70 but on the e90 its under the dash. It took less than 30 minutes to swap out, but you do have to contort yourself a bit to to get to it.

There should be other threads around here with more info on the process/options.

I never took it out, but had to access the harness on it. It's in the kick panel by the hood lever.
