BUYING X6M with unknown problem....help diagnose

I can get a 2011 x6m at a very cheap price. Owner fed up as he cant figure out the problem. Here what he told me, please let me know if this sound familiar to you and have any idea what the problem could be......
Over 1 year ago he got a CEL, out of warranty he brought it to a bmw dealer and they changed coils, plugs, injectors and injectors module, he spent a small fortune and it took a long time due to them sourcing the parts. Got the car back and after 2 days he was back in safe mode.He brought it back and they seem not to be able to find the problem so as he got upset he took his car back and put it for sale.........
Im tempted because of the price, and its only 55000km. Any idea what the problem could be? One of those mechanics told him that he needs a different module, that probably they put in a wrong one......

Oxygen sensors or MAF is where I would look next...having first scanned with a FOXWELL....

Its also good for keeping a dealer on their toes....I have saved friends a fair bit by scanning their vehicles before warranty expiry in particular...and cluing them in...before they hit the dealer.

Perhaps the vehicle needs an off Island blast....

...
He can always take it to another shop for a PPI and get an idea as to what's wrong?

Also what Foxwell model scanner do you have and does it code too?

So, you do need to run a code scan to attempt to narrow down the issue. The Ms do not have a maf sensor....

Anyway, based on experience this could be a lot of things. Without the codes you will be guessing. Ista, bmw Carly, etc. can get the bmw specific codes.

Does it go into reduced power mode? Does reduced power mode go away when you turn the car off and on? Is it a check engine only light

It can be a ton of things from your description. Ranging from vacuum leaks in the pcv and vacuum lines, boost leaks, Bad filtered air ducts, bad map sensors, bad tank pressure regulator, bad pressure converters, bad diverter valves, bad turbos, bad injectors still (yup maybe botched), Bad tune, bad 02 sensors, and on and on.

Let’s just say this is a common issue on Ms and it can have a lot of potential causes. Some are cheapish. Some are thousands. Vacuum and boost leaks are very common and I’d have someone do a smoke test, next most common is bad sensors.

Great information above especially when it comes to little niggles as such something as simple as cleaning the combustion chamber or walnuts last thing is not worth the trouble honestly I wish I was there because I could probably figure this out in about 20 minutes I have a feeling you have an issue with the ECU a lot of them get moisture damage and sometimes it doesn’t show up on either your foxwell which I also have and an AUTEL or a GT2+ BMW factory laptop - id do a borascope looksie and or using foxwell - to go into individual modules to see what’s going on - also try the sneaky throttle reset ! - Along with throttle body alignment

Sometimes problems can start off with a simple issue. Has the vehicle sat for long periods, possibly letting the battery die? These vehicles need good stable voltage, or issues pop up easily, or you can damage modules.

My next question though, if it is getting all these misfires with new plugs and coils, and injectors, would be if a compression test has been done? The motor could be hurt, or it could have bad buildup keeping the valves from sealing fully etc. Not sure how your fuel quality is there, if that could be a factor in injectors getting gummed up quickly etc.

Yes, even the basic 4 cylinder engine BMW have problem with them.
Last version of injectors is 12, at least to my knowledge.
Usually last year od production is less prone to issues.
Good luck with car and make sure you do pre purchase inspection.
