I have Code A0B8. Replace Keyreader?
I have a 2011 X5 50i. If I replace the Ignition Keyreader, do I need to do any re-coding of the key to get it to work again or no? Attached is the keyreader that I would like to replace. Thanks!
You can see a picture of the error that I am getting. I have Code A0B8. When you open the door it makes a "dinging" sound and it says the key is in the ignition when its not. Here is a picture of the error. Based on my research its the key reader that is bad. |

So to possibly answer your question...based on the info from the TIS website...there is no reference as to any coding requirements for the "key slot" because it only contains the Ring Antenna which allows the key to communicate with the CAS and DME...but does not require any coding itself. The remote key is encrypted to communicate with the CAS module and the DME...those are the modules that share the same secret encryption. The key slot is simply a "doorman" that opens the door after the remote key shows its "pass" for entry. That's the way I interpret the data. If anyone else reads it and sees something different...please, go ahead and toss it on the fire for further discussion.
