When to replace X5 5.0i front discs?

Hi - the car is driven by the wife (Boss) and has 132k Km on the clock. The dealer has said to replace the discs. Is this normal ( my H2 has 138k KM and is still on the original discs)?

There are minimum wear limits, as well as the possibility that they need to be turned and that would put them below that level.

Visual inspection and minimum thickness determines it. Not the number of kilometers.

Noted and thanks! "Turned" meaning reversed inside-out"? Unfortunately my dealer only replaces.

Thanks for clarifying, X5 Man. The dealer did it based on Km. What sort of life do you think they should have ( the disc, not the dealer!)?

"Turned," means to put in a specialized machine, that grinds down the disc to be perfectly flat and true again. Like new, albeit thinner...

disc brake life is impossible to predict. driving habits, brake pad choice, etc all determine its life and longevity. You inspect it periodically, at least yearly, or follow the service intervals when the dash lights pop up and then you inspect it.

Typically, I can have rotors, last 2X the life of a pad. So I'll swap pads and pad sensors, and not have to touch the rotors, till the next time the pads wear out.

You turn the rotors if they are warped but still have adequate thickness, warped rotors produce juddering and noise.

If you drive with a heavy foot with frequent hard braking, the pads and rotors wear out faster even if you have less miles.

Its all about driving habits.

Ideally rotors last three times as pads.
