I don't know if a reset of battry will erase this error of your low level coolant.

Either the sensor or air is left in the system I don't have the procedure of how to bleed the system for the X6 with the V8 TwinTurbo
I have looked it up I can only find it for the n54 and n55

Hello,
Actually I just got my X6M back this morning from a low coolant issue. My light would come on and I would get a bad odor. I lifted off the plastic engine cover and could see the return had residue on the tubing. I believe it is a pressurized system due to the innercoolers. I was never actually low and I would advise against adding any as it is really easy to overfill. Turns out when I would get on it there was an internal crack inside the return that was covered up by the tubing. When they went to replace the tubing the return just fell apart...then they broke my water pump but that was due to inexperience by the tech. Anyway check your return line to see if you have any white residue on the tube. Cheers

My vote is a bad sensor. First thing to do is just check if the float is stuck, just try and move it around when the engine is cold.
The only bad part, the sensor is only like $20, but is on the bottom of the tank, so it is a bit of work to get to and change, as opposed to simply changing the whole tank out, which is usually around $100 part. I would judge it a bit on if the vehicle has the newer tank with the yellow arrow on the top, if not, I would for sure update it. |

X6 M. the leak comes from the crimp style hoses clamps BMW uses in they're coolant lines. the leak will be found around the hoses connected to the Turbos for cooling underneath the engine dressing cover.
BMW uses these types of clamps because they do not damage the hoses as a screw style could. but they become loose you could pinch them with the correct pliers but it would be better to replace the hoses. around the turbos the temperature gets very hot that's why there is a cover over the turbos to prevent damage to other components from the heat. the hoses are away from the turbos. but they will get brittle and need replaced. if you have an X5 or x6m your motor is an S63. not the N63. the n63 is the normal V8 for those years. it is easy to replace the hoses when I got to new hoses I took the crimp clamps off wrapped the end of the hoses with silicone tape to prevent damage from the screw clamps I used. purely experimental but the silicone tape should keep the screw from eating into the rubber on the hoses which it did. the smell you smell that stinks toxically is from the coolant seeping past the crimp clamps and leaking onto the motor. temporarily you can re crimp the crimp clamps but I would plan on changing the hoses as they are probably brittle be careful they don't break. one of my did while I was taking it off to replace it. |

It probably was a bad sensor the light eventually went off before I got a chance to order a new one so far so good
