Annoying chatter coming from the trunk
Hey guys ever since I have had my x5 when I hit bumps or small dips in the road there's an annoying noise coming from th trunk. I'm pretty sure it's inside the car. It sounds like something knocking on the tailgate or trunk itself but I cannot find anything loose back there. Anyone had this before and figure out what it was?

I noticed this recently as well! I’m thinking it’s the storage cover but haven’t confirmed it. I noticed when I have a decent amount of stuff back there it does not make any noise.

Rear seat backs get loose and will rattle some.
Wrap the latch "hoop" with some gorilla tape to snug the latch connection up |

^^^ this is the first thing I’d do
Secondly, check the lactch on the lower tailgate. I started noticing noises and a slightly different sound when the upper tailgate closed. Turned out that the latch was loose. Tighten it up and all good now. |

I checked the latch on the tailgate and nothing was loose back there. I think I've found the culprit it's the trim piece on top of the rear windshield that is creaking. Gonna try some foam tape behind it and see if that is it

Same here, if the trunk is full it's pretty quiet. I think it's the trim above the rear windshield on the inside but I'm not sure yet

I have an annoying chatter in mine as well - it's usually dependent on where my wife is sitting.

I think Im getting a creek from the large plastic piece on the lower tailgate. I want to put a little grease under the edge. I removed the handle and exposed screws at the bottom but cant get the rest to pop off. Anyone remove it before?
Did this fix the problem? How did you get the piece off? |

Most likely your rear seats- fold down and drive. If gone wrap small amountof tape on the part that holds latch. Put seat up and drive again. Over time the tape will wear.

My issue was one that almost caused me to sell my car until I stumbled on the below video was the tailgate latch hoops needed to be adjusted. 5 min job & done.
