2013 35i brake change
My 2013 will be due for new brakes in 500 miles for the front and 1500 miles in the rear according to the idrive. How accurate are these readings on the X5? No noise or vibrations right now.
I will do the work myself and will most likely do front and rear at the same time. I am looking at the kits on FCP Euro. The genuine BMW kits would run around $800 vs OE or OEM for around $400-$500. Anyone here gone with either the OE or OEM kits from there? Is there only 1 wear sensor on the front and 1 on the rear? |

Just go ahead and do it if it has been some years since the last brake replacement.
Forget kits. You can mix and match rotors and pads. You can get it on amazon or FCP euro. I put StopTech rotors and EBC red brake pads on all four wheels few months ago. All bought from amazon . |

I bought Zimmerman rotors and akebono pads and bowa? Sensors off eBay and did it myself. Take a look at the pads and see how much meat they have left. Mine were squealing when I replaced them. Make sure you break in the rotor/ pads after installation.

rockauto.com is a great place to buy all that you need, and they group products by high end to budget.
Personally, just get centric rotors (Premium's are my preferred) and sensors. For pads, I'm using centric ceramic pads and they dust a lot. So don't get those. |

I went with RockAuto brake kit, too. The rotors and pads work fine for me.

Thanks. I have used rockauto as well in the past. I just like the idea of FCP Euro for their warranty and really only having to buy the parts once.
Looking at their kits though, you can actually do better pricing and selection wise by selecting individual components. I do want to go with a pad that dusts less than what I have now which I assume is factory BMW. It seems the Akebono will dust less; I may try those. |

I just picked up a set of Centric High Carbon rotors for the front of my X5M from Amazon. I got the part numbers from Zeckhausen Racing website and just plugged that into Amazon so I could get free shipping vs. the $100 shipping Zeckhausen wanted to charge. They got great reviews and I expect they will perform well - and for $130/each I'm willing to try them out.
The FCP Euro lifetime replacement is great but I'd imagine that the cost to ship rotors back to them wouldn't make sense - they're insanely heavy.

+1 FCP Euro charges for the shipping. If you have to ship it back, rotors will cost more in shipping then their original cost. Its like shipping rocks. The beauty of Amazon Prime membership is you can get 100 lbs of rotors shipped free in two-day shipping !!!!!!! Last edited by X5 MAN; 08-15-2019 at 02:39 PM.. |

I had my sensor go off in March and I changed the brakes and rotors on July. The sensor will go off at about 30% life remaining. I live in an area that is geographically flat so that helped prolong my life. You will have some time do decide and maybe you can prolong till some Black Friday sales. Goodluck

I guess the computer is based on total mileages to predict when is due for brake pad change, or with the sensor signal. If your mileage is mostly highway, then likely your sensor will not go off earlier than your computer total mileage.
I changed my brake pads with Akebono, which has less dust and with good grab. You don't have to change your rotor every time you change brake pad. You can find out the minimum thickness requirement from your rotor or typically Front: 28.4mm Rear:10.4mm https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...thickness.html |

Purchased my parts last week for the front; everything has arrived. Brembo rotors, akebono pads and a bowa wear sensor, under $200. Possibly tackling it this weekend.
I have done several brake jobs before, never on a BMW though. Anything to look out for? I will check out some videos but anything different needed to compress the caliper piston? |

I also need to do the brakes soon. Ive used Zimmerman rotors in the past on my E39, my dads E60 and moms F25 so Ill likely use those again. Question is about pads. Ive used Akebonos on my E39 and liked them. How do they work on the heavier X5? Also seeing Hawk HPS, Hawk Ceramic, Cool Carbon. Anyone have experience with any of these brands?
