Wheel question

I purchased a square setup some months ago. They are 20" wheels that are 10.5" wide.

I wanted to use them for summer on my '13 x5m. I just recently learned that you need to be careful to stay with in 1% variation otherwise the cars system does not like it....and could be harmful to the drive line.

If I was to get 305/35/20 tires for the front and back...does that work?

If not...what does?

That tire size should work or the stock size, 315/35/20.

Yes, 315 on a 10.5” works great...
Run that setup on my winter wheels.

Can you send me a pic, maybe of the sides also?

I was advised that the tire could buckle during braking or turning if I went over 305 on a 10.5"

Sorry, they are stored for the summer.
Been using that setup for 6+ years, no issues at all.
They look great!!!

Here's the spec info from the EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 - SIZE: 315/35ZR20 tires:

Think your source for information may be a bit questionable.

Thanks,
John

I showed my installer this info and I'm going with 315 all around.

How is the turning with the wider wheels upfront

Last question....these new wheels have a 30 offset... (Bare with me...first time I'm using aftermarket wheels...ever...)

I know the stock fronts are 40, rear are 35 offset.

If I use these wheels (10.5" width, 20 diameter and 30 offset) coupled with 315/35/20 tires ..is that going to rub anywhere? I'm going to use 20mm spacers for the rear.

Hi,

Here's a wheel calculator you can use to answer your questions:
https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator

Looks like you will be fine on rubbing.

Rear:

Size: 21.2 KB

Be sure to check the hub bore also:

Post a photo when you get the new setup done.

Thanks

Yea the spacer I have in the back converts the 72 bore to 74. The new wheels are all 74 bore. Fronts should be no issue just needed that adaptor feature on the spacer which I was able to find.

@95wildtt

I saw in the calculator it shows the rear's outer position is retracted by 1mm. My 20mm spacers should pull it out 19mm then.

Hmmm back on this again...about to order the tires but did a search online and I found one post where 285 was to much for the front and didn't clear.

Is that true? Then 315 will definitely not work for the fronts

Ah ok thank you.

I checked the specs for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and the minimum rim width for 275/40/20 is 10.5 so it should fit.

I guess I'll be running a stock tire setup on a square wheel set. (315/35/20 on the rear that are also on 10.5" width wheels)

@95wildtt this is essentially the same as your winter setup then, correct?

You have 10.5" width wheels for all four but front tires are 275 and rears are 315?

Hi,

No I have a 9.5" Front (275/40-20) and 10.5 rear (315/35-20) for my winter setup.
I do run a 25mm spacer on the fronts to clear my ///M brake setup, so similar offset to what you are going to have.

You should be fine with the staggered (275/315) tires as they both fit on the 10.5" wheels and will provide the correct rolling diameters.
This will give you the clearance in the fronts and matched revs/mile just as the OE tires.

Are these the only TPMS I need to worry about?

Seems like there are many types but realOEM shows this one for the x5m
