Hello,
Hope everyone is safe during this very challenging time.

2013 X6 50i. Seems to be going through oil, I know with the V8 it sometimes needs a quart of oil between oil changes but seems like my oil light comes on every 1,000-1,500 miles? I also smell a slight burning smell ONLY when the heat is on... I took it to a BMW dealership and it was given a clean bill of health with no leaks. Just to be safe I also had the engine degreased to remove any old oil or fluids that possibly could be burning.

I add one bottle of Liqui Moly 2020, which has pure Esters. Esters restores the degraded Nitrile elasticity groups the rear main seal, oil pan, valve cover gaskets and valve stem seals lose, through excessive heat. They saturate and swell the seals back to original dimensions.

I’ve had good luck with at-205. But all of these oil additives are temporary solutions at best. They can not penetrate beyond the surface of the seals. So they need to be replaced at every oil change. They might buy you a couple of months to years before you need to replace them.

I have had the rear main seal done 2x, valve cover seals, upper and lower oil pan, turbo oil return block, turbo oil lines, all the ccv pipes done. Mine has 61k miles.. I’ve gone to a 90c thermostat to try and reduce the speed at which these seals fail. I don’t think bmw used good quality components. No reason for 3x rear main seals in 61k miles.

Are you familiar with the class action lawsuit and settlement? If you’re having oil burning, you may want to try another dealer. I had my engine replaced and had to pay 15% based on my mileage. Tons of long threads in forums about the n63 settlement.

I have a 2014 N63 equipped X6. I was tracking the burning of oil from around 35K miles. At 49K miles I was burning about 1 quart of oil every 900 to 1,000 miles. At that point, my suggestion that the valve guides were prematurely wearing (The source of most N63 oil burn) turned into demands to my local BMW dealership to change my value seals/guides for free. Given my persistence and the pending judgement on the N63 Class Action lawsuite against BMW North America, they ultimately took the car for 3 weeks and did the valve guide replacement job for free. The dealership said they didn't need to take the engine out of the car. Instead they dropped the engine and were able to complete the job that way. I now only burn 1 quart of oil every 2500 miles.

Thank you! I'm going to contact my BMW dealer to see what can be done.

The N63 and S63 is night and day as far as burning oil, in my experience. N63 is 1 quart every 1k miles. S63 is half quart every 5K miles.

I had my engine replaced also. I think I paid closer to 25% of the cost. I think I had around 90k miles when it was replaced.
