A Consistently Intermittent Cylinder Misfire Signal.

Guys,

The X6M is getting a Drivetrain warning and going into limp mode. This is what was found on the Foxwell at cylinder 5. Got it back to my garage. New Bosch plugs and coils from FCP all around. Still on occasion would get the same warnings. First switched coils between cylinder 5 & 6. Still a cylinder 5 warning. Then switched the plugs. Still a cylinder 5 warning.
Had to go to BMW for I had a sound system problem covered under warranty, so I had them plug in for the diagnostic work up. They said they couldn’t find anything. They said the fuel injector was fine. They said they put 80 miles on the car soft and aggressively but couldn’t find a thing. I told them to reprogram the car. After being parked at work he got these on the way home.

Where do we go from here ?

Thanks in Advance
Craig

Check the plugs but mine turned out to be the Injectors. Go to a different dealer and have them check for the Injectors.

How long have you owned this ///M and have the Injectors ever been upgraded to Index 12?

Had the same issue. Injectors changed twice for same problem. Was intermittent both times. First time they changed all, second time they only changed one that was throwing the code.

My local dealer following the BMW protocol had to change the plugs first beofre telling me it's the injectors. Friggen Monkeys couldn't diagnose the Injectors even though I told them I am just after changing the plugs.

Make sure you have BMW OEM plugs in the car before taking it in

Yes, my plugs for both my M engines are BMW. The coils are Bosch.
As stated earlier all plugs and coils changed after the first misfire warning. When still got occasional warning, I flipped coils between cylinder 5 and 6. Still misfire on 5. Then flipped plugs between 5 and 6. Still misfire on cylinder 5.

My son was in a rush so he brought it to BMW north of Syracuse, and not the indy I would have used who was booked. I was told ‘the tech plugged it in and couldn’t find anything’.
I rolled my eyes and took the car. Is a 70 mile drive home. Began misfiring as he got home. Now the misfiring is more frequent. Will flatbed it to my indy who is a real mechanic.
Bear this in mind if you ever get stuck in Syracuse area.

I had a CEL for cyl 3 in my X5 50i, and the dealer changed the plug & coil, despite me telling the dealer that I inspected the plug and it was fouled up and smelling with fuel. I checked fuel rail pressure at idle and immediately after shut off, and noticed that the pressure dropped dramatically in bank 1 after shut off. Dealer will look at injectors now.
