I have pretty much the same sound from what I can hear. I did the 55 point bmw inspection, though I'm sure that doesn't cover inspecting timing wear. They didn't say anything was out of the ordinary, and that the ticking sound is my injectors.
If I just barely touch the pedal, that usually stops the ticking. At least one time I did have to rev it a bit to get it to stop, usually just a faint press and it's gone. Which makes me think injectors. If it took aggressive throttle movement for it to stop, I would think it's timing related. I'm really not sure either way. It's all speculation. |

N63 timing chains are replaced on their customer care bulletin...yet they're not applying it to the S63 which uses the same chain per RealOEM. Hopefully this isn't like the M62 days where timing chains and/or guides are iffy above 100k and could destroy the engine if they break/jump teeth.

What gas do you use? I have no other choice than Petro Canada for 93/94 octane, where I live. And I read online that their gas has a ton of ethanol in it (which isn't good for our engines). I put in their 94 because I was almost empty and they were close, and my ticking noise went away, at least for today.
I'll keep you posted, I'm only 1/8 of the way through the tank. It may actually be injectors after all. |

I took it to the shop and it turns out theres no compression on the driver side. My timing chain skipped possibly due to low engine oil so it timing needs to be re-adjusted. Its still quite labour intensive but at least it wasnt the motor. |

Yes that is correct. I don’t know if you had confirmed what your check engine light was. Didn’t read the whole thread. I am chasing an annoying loud under load tick in my s63. These engine has more tick than a flea bag. But according to your video i can positively 99.9% sure its the same vent valve tick I have on mine. Its a fast tick and goes away if you hit the throttle.

This is concerning. My poor X5M is in the shop for some other things but I’ve had two check engine lights trip and go away. Hope they’re still in the dme somewhere.
Told dealer: Check engine light twice, loss of power can be felt currently. I also heard on several occasions a loud grinding noise on cold startup. Never could replicate for dealer I’m also losing a liter of oil every 2k miles, just started about 10k miles ago. Before that, I hardly had to top off oil but maybe once per oil change interval. |

I have a quite similar tick sound and I'm trying to figure it out. At idle, it ticks, a bit of throttle and it goes away. |

Then again , people have said they had it replaced just for it to make the tick come back again later. |

well timing skipped, so the indy shop adjusted the timing chain but then its still skipping so with the camera they were able to see that a sprocket broke all of its teeth. Shop is quoting me 50 hours of labour to pull it out, replace and put it back.
