To Dyno or Not to Dyno

Hey everyone!

So I just received my Velos Tune, waiting for my car to get back from the Body shop. But while I wait for it was wondering about you all thoughts on getting it Dyno'd with the Stock ECU Settings and then once I map the new tune on it.

Or is it more worth my time to take it to a drag strip and see what kind of 1/4 mile times the two different ECU Maps put up.

Or just try to judge how it feels?

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Also does anyone know any good 4 wheel dynos in the bar area?

Trap speed is the best gauge than any dyno or butt sensor. Go to the Drag strip.

Do both.

A track will show you the "real" difference between stock and tuned but a dyno will help understand how the engine is running.

I would do both track and dyno.

Dyno's vary from dyno to dyno, to weather conditions etc. actual performance on the road trumps estimated power delivered to dyno rollers.

If you just want to quantify the change, trap speeds are going to be the most accurate gauge of power.

If you were able to log and have Velos do adjustments to the tune, then the dyno might be a better choice, otherwise a dyno has enough variables to be basically a more expensive way to get less accurate real world results.

That said, if you have access to a 4wd dyno, is there anyone local who can do a custom tune for you, that would be the best option, if possible.

Exactly.

A dyno would only be useful if your tuner was tuning your car so he/she can quantify the effects of tune adjustments to arrive at an optimal tune. It is only a tool to quantify power.

If you already have a preset tune and want to compare it to your stock tune, your trap speed is the real world result of the extra power you are supposed to have with a tune.
