Repairs in my future???
I have a 2012 X5, N55. Heard a electric motor sound when I turned the engine off. I then received a low coolant warning light. I stopped, turned the motor off, removed the reservoir cover to add more coolant, and the noise started up again and then water started spraying from a jet inside the reservoir.
Any ideas? If I have a coolant leak then what sort of repairs will I need to make? The vehicle has 108,000 miles so it's out of warranty so I'll be trying to tackle the repairs unless it's well above my skill level and tool set. Thanks Gary |

I don't have that engine, so I don't know for sure, but you need to start looking for greenish blueish crusty stuff coming from the coolant hoses. Keep in mind some of those hoses go to the turbo(s) and they will be small hoses. Look for those first.

If you are having a coolant leak, it will most likely be a combination of these components...

Most have been plastic for a long time now. That’s why BMW has a reputation for weak cooling systems
