Back up Camera--2009 X6 3.5i

Question for those of you who have a back up camera on your pre-2010 X6. I find the clarity of the image on the camera is only so-so during the daytime and all but useless at night. Night images also tend to get a "grainy" look to them. The quality of the image seems less effective than what my phone camera would produce.

Is this a common characteristic? Note I say, "pre-2010" because I believe that the system may have changed for the current model year (a buddy of mine who is driving a new 5 series GT had a much more effective system in his car).

I got a non factory backup system and the picture quality day or night is superv, BMW cameras have bad reputation, you can change the camera for a better one, there is a company in China that sells on the Internet a camera identical to the factory one, check this link:

How did you change your camera, was easy? and is it really big difference in picture?
I don't know how can BMW make such bad resolution camera,lot's of cheap cars have much more better camera,and also navigation software.

I did not change the camera since my care did not have the system, this is the only camera I had but from reading all posts regarding the quality picture of the OEM cameras, it seems like mine is much better than the used on the X6

The 2010 camera is really good. It gives a great picture even at night. Of course there are also two cameras in the mirrors with top view, and those are not as nice, but do good enough to show you what is there. Maybe you could swap to the newer rear camera.
