Hi Blue Dragon,

I've seen a couple of your post on CIC retrofits. I am interested in doing the conversion on my 135i (CCC to CIC). Based on your experience if I were to purchase a CIC system on eBay and install the activation module you have for sale, what else would I need to make the system work properly? (I am very good at soldering and would actually take the module you have for sale apart and install it into the CIC unit itself)

Thanks for any help!

^^ No, my activation module is specifically for the E70. You would need to get one of the e9X. The whole point is not to have to modify your wiring harness by cutting it or modify the hardware (the old way by installing a code card).

You can purchase an activation module with a PnP harness from one of the established vendors, or check out alibaba.com or ebay

Pretty sure they all use the same emulator/module just have different harness', am I wrong?

I was going to remove the card from your setup and install it into the actual CIC unit as shown in the last part of the following instructions (pages 9 to 16):

^^ I think that they are different but I am not 100% sure. I'll give it to your for a reduced price $130 shipped, that way you can flip it easily if it doesn't work. They are still going for $300 on ebay.

Let me know.

Ok I appreciate it, can you tell me some more info about your swap?

I read in one of your post that you purchased a CIC system off eBay and sourced a combox for $100.

Were you able to get the voice control, satellite radio, internet and other functions to work?

What components need to be coded?

Thanks!
Paul

^^ Voice control works, If your CIC doesn't come with an FSC for voice (meaning if it didn't have navigation and voice already enabled in the donor car), you will need to get someone to install an FSC into it. I do not know how to do that, and it seems to be a closely guarded secret by the established vendors. If it does have it, then using the emulator with the can filter will let it work in your car with a different VIN

Internet works, but everyone has been unable to connect for the last couple of days, maybe BMW changed something, no one is sure. Everything else works as expected. I had to get an FSC for 6NR/6NF installed in the combox, and I used bimmer-tech.net for that. Highly recommended, they don't waste time and code quickly.

Ok so the combox itself does not need to be coded? What about rewired?

^^ You need to code the combox if you want internet and bmw live. The wiring depends on what was in your car originally. If you have TCU + MULF, then you need to take wires from both. I bought a PnP harness to make it easy, but there are threads on the coding forums like
http://miniurl.com/4Pvg that talk about making your own harness.

Ok payment sent.

Is it possible to buy a European CIC to use in the US or does the CIC have to be from the US?

Actually just found an emulator that is E8X Specific for the same price, would you be willing to refund my money? You can keep a percentage of it for your troubles! Whatever you think is fair.

Thanks!

You can use a CIC from Europe or US. The key difference is the US CICs support the HD radio band used here where as the Euro ones do not.
There is a setting in the CIC for both Country, and radio country.
