To be fair- I do mostly highway driving, my commute is fairly ideal for MPG. 100 miles round trip, with about half being local roads/ state highway with lights, the other half being free flowing interstate.

As others have said, depends on how much you drive it. I would stay away from the X5 35D but you can get significantly better gas mileage out of it.

Got 2 diesels.. once deleted they are rock solid. You have to take care of a few things that are known to fail/cause problems (Harmonic balancer, Tstat, CBU) after that it is a fantastic super reliable car. I get about 31 MPG on the highway and about 27 MPG combined city/highway driving or 600+ miles per tank with my BRR tune.
My 335d I can get up to 44-45 MPG in the highway.. and it just rips your heart out with all that torque. |

It's good to hear all these good things!! Another one just showed up! It's a 2012 M57N2 with the 8 speed tranny? At least that's what a VIN decoder said, and it's fully loaded, even with the HUD and sports package! But the price seems a little high at 16k with 98k miles. What do you guys think? Kelly's blue book says it should be around 14 to 15k

Just got rid of my 12 X5D 6 speed and avg 21mpg city up to ~24 hwy long trips 70-80mpg. KBB said mine at 64k miles was supposed to be $17k and it had almost everything on it. I think the 13's started with the 8 speed and I'm glad I had the 6 only because I don't like the constant shifting.
Comfort seats and 20" wheels made me happy with mine. I could flog it a bit and still get good mileage.

I recently sold my 2009 35d with 220k miles, loved it to death and am buying a 2013 35d this Friday with 63k and fully intend on getting 200k out of it.
It had it's issues but they were all related to emissions stuff. So I deleted everything around 130k miles, tuned it and didn't have an issue after that. Only thing I dealt with around 200k were replacing injectors which is expected and solved by simply replacing them and purging the fuel system. If you can work on your own stuff there is no reason I would hesitate on the 35d. The torque is fantastic and the mileage is also great, we would average 26-28mpg after the delete with 50/50 driving a majority of the time. If you have to pay someone to work on it (because things will go wrong) then you might want to consider the 35i; finding a diesel guy nearby is tough sometimes. |

What kind of pure highway mileage were you getting? I'm getting an average of 25-26 with about 40/60 city highway driving, and I haven't had it deleted it yet. Soon though! |

Nope, I wouldn't dare use my baby for uber!
I actually have a 100 mile round trip commute right now. Work moved me a few months back to a farther site, and I didn't have any say in it. As least I still have a job, this is better than being laid off. That 100 miles is before I stop for gas, go get groceries, do mini road trips on weekends.... The shop I rent to work on my car is 19 miles away, so some weeknights I go there after work, and I'm 140-150 deep in the day when I get home. Weekends I sometimes head up to Syracuse from northern jersey for basketball games, or head up to NH to bring my gf up to her family home to visit. The miles really add up! I'm currently trying to sell my 335i, which I bought 2 years ago at 120k, and I'm selling it with 171k. That doesn't even count the 5k miles I put on my drift car, or the 5k miles I put on my motorcycle. I spend a lot of time on the road.... You can see why fuel economy gets me excited. The X5d does better than my little 335 did, and while it doesnt handle or accelerate anywhere close, the practicality, economy, and ability to tow my drift car with my daily outweigh the fun factor for now. |

This is the one I ended up getting, picking it up on thursday!
https://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/d/...821029848.html I actually tried getting a really nice 35d but it was sold an hr before I got there:/ This one is kind of loaded with the HUD, Premium Speakers, High Beam Assistant, Bumber Cameras, and all other nice stuff. Only thing I wish it had, was a spare tire, but other than that, can't wait to pick it up!! |
