Something doesn't add up. If your timing skipped, you most likely wouldn't have a running car. And if it did skip, then you most likely would have your valves inside your oil pan after smashing through your piston heads.

There's no way a sprocket with all teeth broken, and skipping, would allow your car to run, and if it did actually run, it would run like shit and would sound a lot worse than your audio clip.

If it was me, I would get a 2nd opinion. Maybe even a third.

Edit: unless it's an idler sprocket. I was under impression it was the sprocket attached to the cam shaft.

A lot of stuff doesn’t make any sense. Like ^he said, your valves would have been bent and it will be more than just replacing a sprocket.
But hey it’s your pocket. We’re just helping a fellow out.

If sprocket broke, your engine wouldn't even run.
Get a car for 2nd opinion to someone who knows Bmw.

I'm not the s63 has idler sprockets. I don't recall seeing them in a tear down i saw a while ago.

Let me just put it this way, if your cam gear really was completely stripped, it's probably new motor time.

Can you post a video of it running?

Your indy went from ticking noise to misfire to broken sprocket and now spun rod. Which is it? Or all of the above?

Will you get to see the shavings? Matter of fact, will you get to see your new motor? So many red flags here.
