09 X6 Transmission problems

I'm getting a message: "Transmission only in position D. Continued driving may not be possible after switching off engine" on my I drive screen. Code is coming up intermittently. Cars go into limp mode and I cant put it in park. Had to shut the car off. Any one else encounter this issue?

Just did some research and getting many different suggestions, but an easy try is to look for codes and erase them. Have you had the X6 for long?

I'm was posting this for a for a coworker. He's had the car for around 8 years and the engine was recently replaced. Has about 100k in the dash.

There is a recall on the X6 regarding power train issues. That might be the cause, should have your friend check with the service center and get that fixed if he didn't already.

I thought the recall was just for the 2019? Was there a recall in the past for older models?

"BMW has issued a stop-sale on certain M models in its lineup due to a transmission wiring harness problem. These cars include the M5, M8 (Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe), X5 M and X6 M. The issue was originally seen posted on Bimmerpost forums and initially reported by Motor1."

"The vehicles affected were all built in 2019 between January 30 and November 27"

Thanks guys for all your help. He end up taking it in to the shop. I'll get you a rundown on exactly what was causing the error once I get the info.
