Spacer for X5M

Installed snow tire/wheel last week with the size of 275/20\' but it still seem the wheel is \"too inside\" even with the spacer. Dealer told me bigger spacer will maybe damage the wheel or car. Anyone know is this true?

You need to give more information. What wheels? What spacers? Front and/or back? The X5 like any other car requires rims of a specific offset for proper orientation of the tires, and load on the bearings.

Offset is the depth of the mounting area of the rim. See http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101 The larger the offset, the further the mounting area is out from the rim center line. You use a spacer to "reduce" the offset, pushing the rim and tire further out.

Opinions may vary on just how much spacer is bad. Even if it properly locates the rims, you stress the rim mounting area. One other thing, you must get lug bolts that much longer to ensure proper tightening of the rim.

Probably why I have steering vibration with my fronts 285 set up with 20 mm spacers
