This week has been nuts!

I took delivery of my 2012 X5d last Friday from Checkered Flag BMW in Virginia Beach.
  • Alpine White
  • Black Perforated Nevada Leather
  • Brushed Aluminum
  • Sport Activity
  • Active Ventilated Seats
  • Premium Package
  • Premium Sound
  • Sport Package
  • Running Boards
  • BMW Apps

Sunday (Xmas) morning we hit the road for Snowshoe West Virginia to go snowboarding. 6.5 hours, 324 miles, 5 people, boards on roof, back packed full of junk and only burned a little over a half tank of gas. Not to mention how well the truck handled those mountain roads with all that extra weight

Tuesday: On the ride back from West Virginia we were caught in a good snow dump (I know, I know, leaving the mountain in those conditions is crazy, but we were on a solid schedule). It was early in the morning so no plowing had been done and it was icy. For a good 100 miles it was hairy driving, but the X5 ate it up! After that experience, I'm going to put it through a good Vermont storm before deciding winter tires are absolutely necessary.

Wednesday: I drove back to Vermont. It was 12 hours 20 mins over 668 miles. A good chunk was spent on the Jersey Turnpike

572 miles to the first fill-up. Active seats saved me as I drove that whole way with only one stop for fuel. Active seats are by far and away my favorite feature on the X5. Spotify streaming helped a ton too.

In conclusion: I now have over 1,600 miles on the truck and haven't even had it a full week. Wonder what kind of craziness I can get into today and tomorrow?

That is so good to hear! Love the gas mileage you are getting on the diesel. I imagine that after walking all over Afghanistan for the next 6 months, or stuffed inside a crappy humvee that our X5 is going to get a lot of miles after we pick it up when I get back. Thanks for the post, your X5 looks great.

Yes, the 50i is great for road trips. I love the roads in that area of WV but it has been 10+ years since I've been there.

My longest trip with the X5 was near 500 miles from Charlotte to Wildwood, NJ via the DelMarVa pennisula and the Cape May Lewis Ferry. Even the return trip which had a late start and a very late finish was no problem.

I reported that trip on xoutpost here http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...g-trip-x5.html

Just curious what brand all-season tires did your X5 come with?

The usual Bridgestones. And now they've been through 3 snow storms with no issues

I am really hating the nav in the 2011+ Bimmers too. All of my other BMWs (equipped with nav since 2002) have had decent nav, and my last two Audi's have been phenomenal. I can't believe this 2012 nav system is so horrid. BMW really fucked this up (sorry about the language but I'm having all sorts of routing issues with it and the split screen map isn't as good as it used to be either).

Now that I'm getting to use it on roads I know I'm having a really hard time trusting it. I'm blown away by how backwards they've gone.
