Front Stabilizer leak question

2008 X5

On an uneven driveway when cold I started getting a steering error warning. Restarting the car cleared the message. Nothing in check control.

BMW Seattle says the front active stability bar is leaking and there is no way to service - needs a replacement. They quoted close to 2,200 for the part 37 116 79 30 37. Labor hits about 3,800.

Anyone go through this failure?

Further investigation on this turned up a service bulletin for failure that was issued in 2008 but never applied to the car. SI B37-03-07

Trying to understand if I have any ground to stand on given that there was a known issue when it was still under warranty.

I guess lesson here is pay attention to service bulletins even when you are not having problems.
