My 2011 X5M
I've never properly introduced the poor girl, primarily because I drive it so much its hard to keep her clean. I took a couple shots I thought I would start throwing in here.
I have included a pic of her wearing the 19" Tire Rack winter wheel set with Pirelli Winter run flat tires, which have since moved on to a different owner. I just didn't like the way they looked, even with a 25mm spacer out back. Tires were too narrow, wheels were too narrow, I didn't like anything about it. My teen said they look like gangster wheels. I replaced them with a square set of 20x10" Ace Convex wheels in matte black, mounted with 275/40/20 Nokian Hakka 7 studded snows. I really wanted to go staggered, but the only 315 snow is a pirelli, available in a studded version, but I thought it was just too wide for snows. I drive a lot through real snow country, so having a set up that was good enough 90% of the time wasn't good enough. I needed a set up able to handle anything This thing is now an absolute beast in the snow and ice. Much better performance than the pirelli's, which I thought were disappointing for a dedicated snow tire. The studs add a little bit of tire hum, but its not too bad if you are used to running high grip summer tires like I am (I think they are still quieter than the BF Goodrich Gforce tires I had on my Mustang GT. This thing absolutely tears up everything IO have thrown at it it - fresh, snow, packed snow, icy roads, whatever. On dry roads, you can hear the studs scratching and clawing at the pavement, so you know it doing the same to the icy stuff. The Hakka 7 is not a real wide tire for its size, but even so its looks much, much more appropriate on the vehicle, and the 25 mm spacers moves the rear out to a decent position. I ordered the wheels with a 74.1 bore all around, so I have to use hub rings in the rear, but you would never know it. This way, I can rotate my wheels, and they will fit on any E70 or E71 if I ever decide to sell. In addition to the change up in my winter wheel and tire set up, I have added performance grills, a Velos tune, Mtec angel eyes, had it coded, and dropped it on H and R springs. I have a lot more planned, but that will have to wait for warmer weather! Last edited by upstate650; 01-30-2014 at 09:07 AM.. |

Good call on swapping out the wheels...the new ones look great!
PS - Maybe it's just the lighting, but that color looks a lot like Space Gray.

A little grey in upstate NY this morning- imagine that! Sun is shining now though. Silverstone definitely looks different shades in different lighting. But it always seems to look darker on my iphone. Next time she gets detailed I will break out the DSLR!

By the way, I owe a big thank you to Eric at Nitrous Garage for setting me up with these wheels. Customer service was awesome, the price was great, everything was handled very quickly. They also provided me with the BMW center caps (aftermarket, since OEM wouldn't fit) and TPMS sensors for a great price. Unfortunately, they couldn't supply the tires, but they shipped the wheels, TPMS, center caps and hub rings straight to my installer. Order with confidence from Nitrous Garage - they are one of our forum's sponsors! They even checked with me after the sale to make sure everything was to my satisfaction!

Your X5 looks awesome! Those ACE Convex are so HOT! The concave is on point. I will definitely be contacting Nitrous Garage this week and look into getting either some Convex in Titanium or Mesh 7 in Mica Grey, I definitely love the concave look. Great job

Thanks - they do have a nice concavity to them - which doesn't show all that great in these pictures. It's not too deep since these are only 10" wheels but it's a 40 offset so there is definitely some there.

Here's a picture of the Hakka 7 tires. These things are serious tires for serious weather.

Mine are 275/40 20 all around, I would guess upstates as well since he said 20x10 wheels 255mm would be pretty narrow on a 10" wide wheel.

KW's are being installed now, and I just received a package of goodies from IND.
Nate IND hooked me up with body colored reflectors, new sidemarkers, and new rear badging. Anyone who hasn't ordered from IND wouldn't believe the packaging. The pieces are wrapped in soft cotton cloths, then bubble wrapped, then carefully boxed up to insure the paint remains perfect. And delivered to my door three days after ordering - Thanks, Nate! |

That looks really good. Not a fan of black wheels usually, but a dark gray or a silver with black wheels, I can get on board with that.

Finally got around to getting her detailed, so I celebrated the occasion by breaking out the DSLR and taking some halfway decent pictures. I'm no shutterbug, but these give you a better idea of what she looks like in the flesh.
Some mods you may note are the BMW performance grills, IND painted reflectors and side markers, my painted brake calipers, and as you can see it is lowered on KW's. Still waiting on my Adams rotors, unfortunately. What you can't see is the Velos tune. I think I still want to drop the front another 3/8- 1/2", and with it this low the wheels look tucked just a bit on my winter set of square 10" wheels. I need to add either 10 or 12 mil spacers in the front, and go from my current 25 out back to 35 or 40 mil. And no, the purple house isn't mine!
