X5D Towing

So I'm going to be picking up a 2011 X5 Diesel this weekend. I was wondering if any of you knew the towing capacity. I would like to be able to tow my enclosed Motocross trailer and maybe a couple times a year tow my smaller camp trailer. The one that I am going to be getting doesn't have a hitch so I am just going to order one. Also, what is the best wiring to get? I'm assuming I may have to go through BMW but I'm sure that will be pricey.

6000 lbs with 600 lbs tongue weight as listed on the factory hitch. I use it to tow my 22ft travel trailer and it works great. You shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks. Mine is only 20 feet. I'll have to look and see how heavy mine is.

I have a 2011 X5D and I use it to tow a lot! It's currently parked outside my office with a utility trailer and a riding mower on it.

This past weekend I used it to tow my E36 M3 to the track. the car is around 3,100 lbs and the traler (Trailex alum) is another 1,000. I have the stock BMW hitch and wiring and it pulled GREAT!

I was able to tow to the track and was proud to claim I was likely the only guy that towed a car and got over 20 mpg (20.4). On the way home I was running 80 mph and never even felt it!

It may be to combination of the 20" fat boy tires on the back and the good trialer but it's great!

I have even pulled a motorcycle trailer (enclosed) to the mtns. of NC before and no problem!

My favorite is to put my motorcycle reciever hitch carrier on and haul my KLX 250 to rides.

The X5D works great for towing!

I'm glad to hear this works so well!
I just got an 2013 X5d and ordered an Aluminum Trailex CT-7541

Trailer Weight: 845LBS
Carrying Capacity: 4100 LBS

My E36 is about 2800 lbs.

Having towed previously with an Armada and a Sequoia, I was a little nervous about towing with the smaller X5, but I'm hoping my rig is within "the sweet spot".

Does anyone have anything besides the BMW hitch? I am selling my 1/2ton so the X5d will be our new tow rig so I am looking to get a hitch my plan was to go to a local hitch shop and have them order and instal one but I haven't really looked into what is available.

Are you using a brake controller?

I tow my boat 5500lbs and get 14-17mpg depending on speed. Can't see anything behind me, but I'm super comfy!
