Anyone Hear of Diesel Issues

My wife's 2013 X5D broke a rod yesterday at freeway speed and we ended up with a nice hole in the bottom end of the block and oil pan. I know of one other with issues as well. I think this is an isolated incident of infant failure since we only have 4200 miles on it, but wanted to see if anyone else has run into problems.

Unfortunately this was my wife's first BMW (big Audi fan) and she is not super stoked right now to say the least.

Nope, I haven't had any issues with my car yet and I'm at around 6700 so not too far off from you.

Based on the recommended schedule maintenance of the car, its weird not having to visit the dealership since I bought it.

That's a pretty misleading topic name. How is that issue diesel related?
I think you asked it in the other forum and someone had same problem of broken rod. Probably not a diesel issue.

Nothing misleading about it. There was an obvious manufacturing defect considering the infant failure. The question is whether this was a single instance or if there was a larger manufacturing issue. I don't think they are using the same rods in any other application so it would be specific to the diesel engines. It sounds like a one off based on the lack of response which is fine.

Ok, what rod are you talking about?
This guy lost the driveshaft on the freeway; his vehicle is 50i.
All I am saying is: you ask some general diesel reliability question in your topic name, then proceed talking about some rod - an issue not specific to diesels.
