If the F80 can't hang with the 991 S around a race track then I'll start griping.. until then.. I'm good with however many FWD minivans, gran turismo hatchbacks and gran coupe sedans it takes to keep the cash coming for the niche toys

Market share...
BMW bulked up on cash reserves over the past two periods of near consecutive economic downturn. The company began to sense a few years ago that the recession would end in late 2014 or early 15, and that consumer should break out of their shells to buy a wide range of the BMW offerings.
The decisions that BMW has made at the macro level were to invest in capital improvements to support the new vehicle lines which would ultimately result in greater market share. That said, the recent introductions of modifications in their coupes and sedans is definitely paying off. The release of the new SUVs is a real gamble as buyers may find it hard to distinguish among all of the different models. Finally, BMW is just dipping its toe into the water in the i-cars. It needs to establish a broader logistical support structure in charging stations to be competitive in the i-car market.

BMW changed the naming scheme to make even numbers (2,4,6) the coupes yet they have a 4 and 6 series gran coupe. So they specifically change the numbers to make a different name for coupes and sedans then make a 4 series 4 door which defeats the whole purpose of the new naming structure. Plus now they are sticking M badges on the back of non-M vehicles. BMW is losing their minds.

Actually I think it is a good thing. For each it owns. I don't like the way a Z3 (and Z3M) looks. I really like the X6 (and X1, not such a fan of the X3 and X5).
A lot of people disagree and love the Z3M or the think the X5 is very nice but they don't know what the heel a X6 should be. I don't understand people, they get a bigger choice and then they complain. People putting on M kits on a 320d but BMW can't make a (fake M if you want to call it like that) M135i? People have different reasons to go for a Porsche instead of a BMW (or the way around) but when you are saying Porsche doesn't have a lot of models out and/or is more exclusive.... pfff.... who you are kidding? I can image Porsche owners complaining on a Porsche forum about the Panama and Cayenne. You guy's gonna have a heart attack when BMW brings out a van, hahaha. |

On a side note.
Do you guy's still remember the 3 compact? A friend had one back in the days. Full of M badges because he had the M kit options but it was a 316d. If you don't like it, then don't look at it, if it is your own car, then de-badge it. Rather complain at stuff that matters. More choice/flexibility in putting your option together. I love the M bumpers but I don't like the red or blue finish in the car that comes with it. When you change the color of the leather then you don't need the aluminum parts to go wood finish etc. Cheap materials of the lower segment and the noise that comes with it. It is almost normal that a 5 series is much better then a 1 serie bu a 1 serie of 30k euro should be better as a Peugeot of 15k euro right. When you go to a dealer with the complaint then you get the answer: Yes sir, but it is because you have a 1 serie, then you should go for a 3. Same thing goos for other brands like MB but then again, here you could make a change where you will benefit from in the long term. |

I guess with parts sharing, modular engines and platforms and all that jazz companies can choose to churn out however many models and not spend much on development.
For the consumer I suppose it's good to have choices on what body you like. X1 or X2? |

I also think it's too much. Better have fewer models than such a large number, when people can't even recognize them properly. At least this is what I think.

lol. Funny thing is people in Europe love these type of cars. I see them everywhere. The parking spaces in the European metropolitan area is a nightmare. Sometimes I don't even know how I fit my F80 in these parking garages.

Audi folks moved in, just look at the M division and the man in charge an Audi guy behind the 1st AWD M5, and M at all levels., what the hell.
Looking at the design, it is just like Audi now, one fit for all, you just have to decide on the size. I also beleive quantity never helped quality, it is certanly our experience with our BM's no longer as solid as they use to be. Shame the brand use to be specific, controled by engeneers, now Marketing in charge. |

Don't really care, gimme a high performance sedan with a stick and we are all good. I could care less of whether someone thinks I am driving something special or not. All I care about is how what I am driving makes me feel, the performance potential and the practicality of it.

I like that they have different models. Some drivers are too specific to what they want and BMW does the best it can to make them. Like, who else offers a 4 seater with manual transmission, 6 cylinders and RWD for less than $50k?
2 series is by far my favorite |
