The Mobil 1 5W30 oil used here is not HTHS oil....simply stated, its not BMW LL01 or 04...I would not use that in an M...it's no different than Coscto Castrol stuff (ACEA A1B1 same as the Mobil 1) which again does not meet the LL01/04 ACEA A3/B4 HPHS rating recommended/required for our engines:

Hmmm... how come mine (S63) has draining plug within the filter housing vs. yours (pics shown here) has separate draining plug on the side?

I did my own oil change a few months ago. that looks correct. You just need that special tool (86mm 16 flute oil filter wrench) to clamp on there to loosen it.

My 2010 has both.

I also have the above noted issue, where my filter stays snapped on to the engine when I remove the housing.

Changed mine for the third time this morning. This time my kit came with 2 extra seals, a small crush washer and a small o ring. This is for another car im assuming, but which?

Ah the seals in my above post are probably related to this.

What brand did you buy that came with those extra washers/seals?
My 2011 has the secondary drain on the filter that I’m guessing is to drain the oil in the cap prior to removal.

Mine had the extra seals too...it was purchased at BMW Parts/ Service (won't make that $30 mistake again)

It's so when you unscrew the housing it doesn't dump more oil on you.

That's funny....But seriously...lots of videos to watch, certainly easy to do.

But my advice...buy a quart of spec fluid...and go to a reputable tranny shop....you will be billed for half an hour labor...but at least the level will be verified by pro's...

Does the S63 burn more oil using 30 or 40 weight? I heard somewhere when the Alert sounds to add 2.5 quarts? That can't be right....

There's a service bulletin that explains S engines can eat up to 2.5 liters of oil per 1,000 miles and this would be considered normal.
