Question Just Purchased a 2010 X5 4.8i - HEATER BLOWS COLD

My just purchased X5 blows cold air and Winter is coming! Possible Causes indicated were Blendoor Actuator, Heater Core, Coolant Leak, etc. Any Suggestions on troubleshooting this?

Also, Brake Pad too thin indicator light was on and I've scheduled the rear brakes to be done. Now the Parking Brake light is on with a MALFUNCTION. It stuck ON and I had to manually release the Brake with the provided tool. The Parking Brake light remains on (Yellow) and the red BRAKE light remains on due to the pads wearing too thin. Could the Parking Brake malfunction be associated with the rear brake pads wearing too thin?

Did you pull a code? If not Its probably your heater control valve. You'll know for sure by turning on the heat, and if you heater hoses (go to firewall) stay cool to the touch, its your heater control valve. Common Failure on the E70, especially when you dont change your coolant.

Nope not related to brake pads, its your parking break control module that has failed. It will need to be replaced, its an all day diy job, and you can buy remans from ebay for $300-$500. I've done the job its not hard, just time consuming. Common failure on the E70.

Do your rear hatch sturts work and sunroof open on vent? Common problems too, lots of diy fixes.

No code came up for the heater issue. Heater hoses were hot. Mechanic suspects it is the water pump starting to fail and not pressurizing the system enough to move thru the heater core. We confirmed that by elevating the front of the car about 1 foot and ran the engine rpm up to 3500-4000 for several minutes until we felt warmer air being generated out of the vents. New Water pump & thermostat are scheduled for next week!

All the Tutorial fixes we tried to reset the Parking Brake did not work. Most tutorials also recommended the control module be replaced if the reset procedures failed so you are spot on about that issue thanks! I will keep you posted.
No issues with the hatch struts or sunroof mechanism yet. I will watch for it thxs.

Just had the same issue with my heater, blowing cold air. Read about checking hoses at the heater valve but all three were hot, probably from driving around for an hour. Found a heater valve on Amazon for $35 (OEM was around $155) pinched hoses so only a little loss of coolant, replaced in about 30 min.

And had a similar EMF issue, locked up possibly due to low battery, pulled emergency release and stayed like that for past year or so. But then other issues came up with trifecta lights, whole other story I may post. Found rebuilt EMF from Wholesale Parts Express in FL for $300 or so. Don't try and just replace EMF, do bowden cables as well, may want to do rear brakes as well as you need to remove calipers and discs. Took me about 4 hrs, then there's the coding still working on that...
Also just saw about the water pump. Check your sunroof drains as well, I found to be the cause of ATF/VTG module getting wet that started the trifecta journy.
