BMW 40d to 50d Conversion

Hi guys, I'm new to owning an X5 and was wondering if there was anyways to try and bridge the performance gap between the 40d and and M50d? Are there any parts from the M50d that can be put onto the 40d? Was looking into maybe changing to hybrid turbos but then need to look into changing the exhaust. Living in the UK there is a small issue of passing the emissions test on the MOT so don't really want to fiddle with the DPF but don't know if it can handle the increase of back pressure. Thanks in advance guys.
