Rock chip?

I washed my car on Saturday and because of rain I had to re-wash it again and between then and now I picked up what looks like to be a rock chip in my relatively new car. I have Xpel PPF, I feel like I can see the PPF peeled back and the car paint below, but it’s hard to say. I’m going to leave it in the sun for a couple hours and see if that changes anything. Other than that, does anybody have any advice? Is there anything that can be done to repair the PPF other than replacing the whole hood?

Thanks!

Looking at the second picture it looks like something really sharp pierced through the PPF and you can see the primer. You have to get an opinion from your PPF shop but you might be screwed.

Don't take the ppf off and replace it. What's the point? Just touch up the chip and trim any curled ppf away from the edges first.

100%. Or just take a black Sharpie marker and cover over the primer.

I know. I’m pissed. What are the odds?

I don’t think I’ll replace it because it seems a pretty high likelihood I’d that it will happen again.

I don’t think there’s a chip on the paint, I think it’s just the PPF bubbled up?

Should I have the PPF shop look at it or should I take it to the dealer for OEM Black Sapphire paint marker touch up?

Thanks

There is no harm in getting an opinion from the shop that installed the PPF.

There will be other chips to come.

My opinion is to grab a color-matched paint from the auto body shop in a can and apply it using the toothpick method.

BMW touch-up paint will work as well, it's a close match but not 100%.

With a chip so tiny, you probably won't even notice it.

Since moving away from true enamel paints, this stuff is softer without a doubt! I'm amazed at how many little chips there are, with barely 12k on the odometer (2020). I've felt the paint is soft since correcting my paint before actually driving it, once I got it home. Is a shame... But I decided to forgo the PPF and just correct, fix chips & respray the front at some point. That's just me, but it removes some of the worry about every little chip, that will come, regardless.

Best Regards
