Bavsound Stage 1 & Ghost Subwoofer

Is it worth paying up the $1300 for the stage one and ghost subwoofers? Are there any other companies making kits like this for the x5's?

I bought my car from a member here and it came with the Stage 1 speakers only (no upgraded subs). It sounds good. I listened to the regular system a few months ago and the upgrade does sound better.

I believe the amp upgrade may be money better spent however. Not sure what the factory amp provides in terms of output, but the Bimmertech amp provides plenty of power to really wake the factory speakers up. Also gives you the ability to tune it

Slight problem, the website says it isn't avaliable for my X.

Looks like you have a 2013, which means you have at least S676 Hi-Fi, unless you have the Premium Sound Package (S677 Premium Sound), which is even better. Either way, from everything I've read you wouldn't notice much of an improvement. Maybe if you had an older E70 with a crappier sound system...

The Bavsound stuff doesn't have the best reviews from X5 owners who've installed it.

I have the BavSound speakers and Ghost subs in my X5M. It is a noticeable improvement over the factory Individual Audio system. Now that they've broken in they sound even better. Upon initial evaluation I wasn't impressed but after a while they're much better. Especially the subs.

All you need is better tweeters and more power. The factory mids are decent, just under powered. Also you need to properly xover those speakers. Then add a real sub.

I feel the bavsound kit is way overpriced and with the factory Amp way under powered. I regret buying all of it, and would have been content with the tweeters alone, an audio control lci6/7 and amp

I upgraded to the ghost subwoofer in my F10 535...After selling the 535 it turned out it also fits in the E70 X5M with enhanced sound. It's a subtle upgrade, it doesn't pound your back, but I find it improved the sound system for me (in both vehicles). FWIW.

Sure, you could piece together your own setup for less and figure out how to properly get everything mounted and installed in a non-halfassed manner, but as far as I know Bavsound has one of the only setups that are plug and play into the stock positions. Seeing as I don't have the time anymore to do custom installs, the premium price is very worth it to me. I'm sure it's the same for many other owners.

If I had a 10" Stealth sub in the back, the audio in my X5 would be absolutely superb.

It might not worth the price thou.. I'm running Audison AP 8.9 bit with full Audison speakers + CT sound subs. Thinking of installing a Sony RSX GS9 somewhere inside the glove box to use my Sony ZX2 TO play true lossless using LDAC. Currently running a ZX2 + PHA 3 setup which is good enough for me just now.

In have this setup on my old E60, when I sell the car I took them off and put them back on my e70. All the parts I am using are universal, if I decided to go with another car I can just take them off and put on my new vehicle. All I need is a retina using bit tune. It's kinda saving money since most of the people just left their upgrades on their vehicle when they get rid of it.

I don't know what 'TopHifi' means? Does that mean S676A 'Hi-Fi' or S677 'Premium Sound Package' which would be 'Top'

Either way, I would love to hear this BavSound 'upgrade' vs. either of those packages. Sound is very subjective to the ears, so we'll never all agree.

I have the Individual Audio Upgrade (S752A) in my E90 M3, and I think it sounds worse than the base audio system (S676) in my 2012 X5.

The only difference I can actually hear, based on what I purchased (mids and tweeters) was the subtle increase in the highs and crisper highs. The mids were IMO a waste, and frankly the OEM BMW speakers look rather decent.

Take a page from JL Audio, at one point they offered an e70 kit. It was an amp, a LOC, custom brackets for the amp and LOC; and get this, just a pair of tweeters and a passive 2way xover.

Even JL Audio, felt that the factory mids were adequate. Having you just properly run it through a xover and give it more power.

^^ I think thats why the amp is the way to go to start. It seems like the speakers BMW provides in a lot of their cars are actually pretty decent, just woefully underpowered.

The stereo in my E39 was completely transformed when I replaced the weak factory amp with a powerful one from Alpine.

Actually no. A cheaper way tobsolve your problem is you need a Hi RES player, a headphone amplifier and a good aux cord, of couse you need some great FLAC file.

with my experience audison products provides plug and play ability which is perfecr and its easily tunable to your car.

When I get my '13 delivered I'm going to start off adding a DSP/Amps/Sub. (HiFi System)

If I'm not happy I'll start looking into drop in speakers.

Longshot here, but what EQ settings are you running in iDrive?

I just picked up a 13’ X5M with the Bav stage 1. I have to say I’m less than impressed, comparing it to my sick individual audio in my e92. I’m hoping it’s just some wack EQ settings.
