Cracked door mirror options.

So I backed the X5 into the edge of the garage door and hit the driver side mirror and the plastic cover cracked and broke into 3 pieces.

See photo!

So I McGyvered it with duct tape. The pieces fit back with the tape and will 'click' back into place. But of course aesthetically it isn't pleasing to the eye.

So I looked around for replacement but the dealer wants $90 and then another $90 to paint it to the color of my X5. It comes 'primed', which means it will have to be painted to match my paint. I looked online on ebay and the same thing, it comes 'primed'.

So instead of spending $180, can I just cover the cracks with a CF trim?

Had anyone bought carbon fiber 'trip' that covers these things and were happy with it?

I was thinking about doing that but wasn't sure if anyone has experience with them!

I get what your asking and trying to do. Your least inexpensive route would be to hot glue or use epoxy matting inside the plastic housing to hold it together. (you can use what every you want to hold it together from the inside)
Then use some filler and sand the out side of the housing down so its all smooth with no cracks. Depending on what type of CF wrap you use, some will show the cracks that is underneath and some of the thicker stuff will hide everything.

If you take your time and do it right you might only be out $10-15 bucks and have CF wrapped mirrors. It's not going to look great having CF wrapped mirrors, unless your into that kinda stuff.

But it is the "cheapest" fix.

Hope this helps and good luck!

FYI, $80 is for covers not replacements, replacements will run you about $300+

Yes that is the part. But as I said before, they needed to be painted.
