Does your BMW have good radio reception?
Mine is really Bad. I got a rental car and I can keep the same station in the rental car easily 15 miles beyond where my car stereo craps out.
Thinking about getting a FM reception booster.

OMG. Most Complicated FM radio antennae ever designed!! The exhaust strap it mentions - is this the sole purpose of that strap?? or does it have another function?

Yes. Is complex. They took lots of measures to counter electrical interference. This means lots of potential places for it to occur if a grounding/suppression attachment is violated.
